We are looking for an AVP, Information Security
Given the size and scope of our organization, we have the flexibility for this position to be located anywhere in Canada provided candidates can operate on EST core business hours. Periodic travel will be required post-pandemic.

The AVP Information Security will lead and define a clear target state for what security looks like overall for the organization. The role will build new security processes and capabilities for cloud risk, data security, software security, vulnerability management, supply chain security, cyber risk, analytics, breach handling and investigations, and security testing. This role is also accountable for managing incident response and data loss prevention processes and frameworks.
The AVP Information Security is a First Line of Defense role and reports to the VP, Technology Risk and CISO.
What you will do
- Establish, refine, and execute a future target state for Canada Life’s Information Security program and overall capabilities. Determines which processes are required and which capabilities will help enhance the organization’s security model.
- Develop and implements sound overall multiyear plans and annual tactical plans to achieve desired business goals related to Information Security
- Proactively assess current state of information security across all of Canada Life’s systems, applications, and technologies.
- Identify gaps, challenges and/ or deficiencies in current state and engage stakeholders to refine current processes, develop new methodologies, and implement more secure practices organization wide.
- Testing systems, applications, and other technology to ensure information is secure.
- Lead Canada Life’s responses to security events supported by our global monitoring function
- Serves as primary point of contact for internal and external auditors, clients, and compliance functions related to cyber security matters.
- Prepare report and recommendation on high-profile security incidents and implement resolutions
- Leverage threat intelligence and interact with external environment to stay abreast new threats and challenges
- Lead a team of Info Security Specialists established for each major portfolio that combine business, technology, and risk knowledge.
- Provide financial management of annual operating and initiative expenses to ensure financial transparency to all operating companies.
What you will bring
- 15 years’ experience in a similar role
- University degree, preferably computer science related, or a combination of education and related experience
- Certified in one of the following: CISSP-ISSAP, CISA, SANS
- Understanding of technology risk regulatory, best practices and industry best practice
- Establishing and maintaining relationships across a variety of areas
- Constant learner and passion for security governance
- Deep understanding of how large enterprise organizations work, within in a regulated environment
- Ability to attract, retain and develop talent
