Position Summary:
The Philanthropy Officer, Annual and Mid-Level Giving executes and coordinates the approved fundraising strategies aimed at increasing revenues from new and existing donors that give between $1,000 – $49,999 per year.
The position also works with and supports the Director, Philanthropy – Innovation and Annual Program lead in the rollout of effective and sustainable programs to achieve Annual Giving and Mid-Level targets and other agreed financial and non-financial goals.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- In collaboration with the Director, Philanthropy – Innovation and the Annual Program lead, implement and execute approved strategies aimed at increasing revenue from new and existing donors. These include (but not limited to) Direct Mail, Email, Social and Telemarketing;
- Manage a portfolio of 100 or more donors and prospects, building strong, long-term relationships and developing personalized engagement strategies through the full donor cycle (identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship);
- In collaboration with the Director, Philanthropy – Innovation and the Annual Program lead, analyze appeal results and uses results to make recommendations to increase ROI in future appeals;
- Work collaboratively with the creative agency and the Foundation communications team to develop (from concept to deployment) materials that are compelling, passionate and on brand to personalize engagement;
- Increase the current gifts by developing upgrade and retention strategies;
- Reactivate and/or re-engage donors that have given in the past;
- Acquire new donors/gifts;
- Work with Foundation communications team to acquire details regarding specific appeal subject matter (e.g. patient or clinic stories);
- Collaborate with patient, clinic and the communication team to ensure appeals developed are accurate and fact checked;
- Work with Director, Philanthropy – Innovation and Annual Program lead to execute existing donor stewardship programs;
- Assist in finding innovative methods to further engage the existing portfolio;
- In partnership with the Director, Philanthropy – Innovation and Annual Program lead create annual strategy, implementation plan and budgets;
- Work collaboratively with Philanthropy Officer – Donor Recognition & Stewardship to ensure seamless and consistent recognition and stewardship. These activities include:
- Ensuring that the donor is recognized by receiving various materials from the foundation (i.e. follow up program reports, invitation to special events), adapting by audience where appropriate;
- If applicable, recognized on our donor wall;
- Develop cultivation events and/or sessions as necessary to engage and steward Mid-Level donors and prospects. These events include:
- Tour of the hospital/clinics;
- Hospital speaker/ meet and greet event (physician, caregiver, senior management, researcher, etc.);
- Luncheon/networking events with similar donors;
- Write copy and produce miscellaneous fundraising materials and brochures.
Qualifications:
- Must have a minimum of 4 years of experience working in fundraising.
- Proven track record of successfully soliciting donors through a variety of channels, including mail, face-to-face and phone contact
- Ability to make “cold calls” to donors and prospective donors.
- Demonstrated excellent communication skills (verbal and written).
- Experience in creating and presenting compelling proposals to donors.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and very strong person to person relationship-building skills.
- Ability to work with senior leaders, physicians, and other foundations effectively and collaboratively.
- Basic understanding of healthcare delivery system in Ontario.
- Ability to attain financial and program goals within prescribed timelines.
- Experience working with volunteers and volunteer committees/boards in a wide range of capacities.
- Excellent organizational skills and demonstrated ability to prioritize multiple and changing demands.
- Proven ability to exercise diplomacy and good judgment.
- Keen understanding of current finance and accounting principles in the not-for-profit sector.
- Exemplary attention to detail with excellent planning, organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to work independently using an above average level of initiative.
- Ability to work as part of a fundraising team.
- Proficient in the use of all corporate productivity tools including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Internet Explorer as well as Raiser’s Edge or other donor database management systems.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Demonstrated commitment to and understanding of the mission and values of St. Michael’s Hospital.
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including some evenings and weekends.
