As a Principal within the Portfolio Management Team (PMT), you will play a critical role in overseeing portfolio analytics and construction activities, monitoring of approximately 70 direct investments, engaging in cross-portfolio initiatives, as well as leading the bi-annual valuation processes.

In this role, the successful incumbent will also be encouraged to work independently and as a team in preparing reports and analysis for the Global Head of Equities, the Private Capital Sector leads, Chief Investment Officer, OTPP’s Total Fund Management (TFM) group, Executive Team & Board. Who you’ll work with

The Principal will work in a dynamic, fast paced, creative environment with PMT colleagues, Equities investment team professionals, Equities Senior Team, as well as other cross-fund partners from Finance, Risk, Operations, TFM, etc.

The role also requires close collaboration with our Value Creation & Analytics colleagues in the Infrastructure & Natural Resources and Teachers’ Innovation Platform teams on initiatives that straddle all Private Investments. Lead and create high quality, succinct internal reporting, including the Equities Annual Board Reports, Investment Committee reporting, Capital Planning, Liquidity Forecasts and other ad-hoc reports to CIO, functional partners, Executive Team and the Board

Oversee the mid-year and year-end valuation processes for Equities, ensuring consistency in approach across Toronto, EMEA and APAC deal teams, providing concise commentary and projections to leadership and ensuring high-quality submissions to Finance for review

Oversee timely and efficient portfolio monitoring of around 70 portfolio companies through our portfolio management software process

Develop presentations for Global Head of Equities or other members of the Equities Senior Team for offsites, conference, team meetings, etc.

Coordinate and prepare Equities annual administrative expense budget and department scorecard

Enhance and maintain regular and ad hoc portfolio-wide analytics (exposures and performance by portfolio, industry, geography, deal team, vintage, ownership, financial performance, risk & benchmarks) to help inform portfolio construction and investing decisions for Equities Senior Team

Collaborate with other private investment departments and OTPP Functional Partners, such as Total Fund Management, Risk, Finance, and Operations, on Fund-wide and Equities-specific initiatives

Support OTPP’s Risk department in ensuring departmental risk is accurately measured (risk models are accurately developed and implemented in a timely manner)

Contribute to cross-portfolio initiatives and sharing of best practices

Help implement and monitor ad-hoc asset and benchmark hedging strategies

Be an active leader and role model within PMT & Equities, supporting junior training and development What you’ll need

Undergraduate degree in accounting, business management or related discipline

Professional qualification (CPA, CFA) required; CBV strongly preferred

Minimum of five years of progressive experience in finance, accounting, financial and management reporting, FP&A, or similar field

Advanced knowledge of business valuation and performance measurement

Excellent analytical and quantitative skills with a knack for performing in-depth, critical analysis, and an ability to step back and “tell the story”

Confident, articulate, and professional written and oral communication skills

Strong project management ability, capable of balancing competing priorities, work independently, and thrive in a high-performance team environment

Self-starter with a positive, team orientated demeanour

Working knowledge of equity valuations with various methodologies across multiple industry sectors

Strong Excel and PowerPoint skills
