Job description: Overview

The Logistics Specialist (LS) objective is to support Transportation Safety initiatives as well as Front End operations. The LS proactively builds awareness, ensures compliance and commitment in Transportation Safety with truck drivers, carriers, and Lafarge personnel across the GTA. The LS is responsible for supporting the development, execution, and the administration of the Safe Trucker Program to ensure accurate and timely reporting. The LS is to coordinate first response to transportation related incidents on Lafarge and customer sites. Additionally, this role will provide vacation coverage for Front-End operations, specifically Weighmasters.

Responsibilities

  • Safety: Ensures all aspects of this role are executed in a safe manner. Obeys safety guidelines when on construction sites and Lafarge operations. Coordinates Safe Trucking Program and ensures safety compliance and targets zero incidents. Coordinates the training of haulers on our safety procedures. Proactively identify, propose and develop processes to effectively manage safe trucking, risks, opportunities and issues associated with haulers.
  • Driver Communications & Training: Supports the development of and implements communication processes for truck drivers working for carriers, brokers and as independent owner operators to ensure full understanding.
  • Safe Trucker Program: Working with the Safety Group & the Supply Chain Team, supports the formulation, documentation and implementation of the Safe Trucking Program.
  • Hauler Management: Proactively establish regular contact with major carriers, the core fleet, and preferred independent owner operators to promote awareness and ensure compliance with the Safe Trucker Program.
  • Customer Site Management: Proactively visits customer fixed plant and project sites to observe and report on site conditions for safe unloading. Communicates findings with Territory Managers and Central Dispatch.
  • Incident Response and Investigation: Working with the Safety Group, Plant Managers and/or Territory Managers, responds to safety incidents related to the delivery of aggregates. Conducts incident investigations to determine root cause and propose corrective action.
  • Discipline & Reward System: Assesses and advises Management Team on discipline and reward with haulers on Safe Trucking.
  • Systems, Tools and Processes: Ensures the administration and maintenance of the Safe Trucker Database (Aximate). Reports on STP violations, incidents, and compliance.
  • Industry Knowledge & Regulations: Monitors government regulations as it pertains to commercial vehicle operations.

Relationships with Others Jobs:

  • Reports to the Customer Service and Logistics Manager (CSLM)
  • Works directly with the Fleet Coordinator
  • Works closely with the Safety Group, Central Dispatch, CSLMs, Sales Team, Plant Managers, Weighmasters

Qualifications

Education & Work Experience:

  • Post secondary degree/diploma and 5 years experience or the equivalent of education and experience
