Senior Pipeline Developer will work with peers and supervisors to craft state-of-the-art tools, techniques, and procedures to aid the execution of the current projects and advance the capabilities of Rocket Science’s production pipeline by incorporating proven software engineering principles into design, implementation and management of tools that assist the digital artists with their daily use of both third party and in-house software and systems.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
- Work with, and inform, leadership to shape the technical implementation and architecture or key client services in the pipeline
- Help leadership to track progress and outcomes, and provide key insight when a change of direction is needed
- Contribute to the design and implementation of the Pipeline infrastructure, tools, processes, and automation.
- Maintain, refactor, improve, and test existing code to reduce technical debt.
- Proactively help refine and improve the team’s development standards and processes.
- Do code reviews and give productive feedback to team members.
- Mentor, support and enable production TDs to help resolve issues and solve problems
Technical Requirements:
- 6+ years of experience in feature animation or VFX production pipeline technology
- Degree in Computer Science or similar education.
- Strong familiarity with GIT / SVN and collaborative workflows (code review, standards, etc.)
- Excellent knowledge in Python and UI development using PySide/PyQt (comfortable designing APIs and larger application architecture)
- Strong familiarity with C/C++ Visual Studio (compiling complex VFX C/C++ libraries and dependencies on Windows)
- Experience with workflows based on Pixar’s USD scene description language
- Experience with implementing or working directly with databases (Postgres, MySQL, MongoDB) would be beneficial
- Excellent knowledge of one or more of the following software: Maya, Houdini, Nuke, Red shift, Arnold, Mari.
- Experience with writing Shotgun Python API scripts, as well as managing Shotgun site configurations and Shotgun projects using the Shotgun web UI
Other Requirements:
- Proven ability to work with artists to troubleshoot and fix day-to-day production challenges
- Demonstrate ability to collaborate with other developers, in a co-ordinated manner, on the same product
- Ability to mentor and provide guidance to junior members of the team
- Strong communication skills both in written and verbal. Ability to articulate both with technical and non-technical teams is preferred
- Deep understanding of large-scale production pipelines and artist workflows within film and television visual effects.
