Background
The VP of Infrastructure Engineering role is accountable for leading the Infrastructure Engineering team in a functionally oriented IT model, including both full-time and contract resources, and project and support resources. The role is also responsible for leading assigned project/program streams of dedicated cross functional teams, with particular initial focus on providing Infrastructure Engineering direction and support to key strategic programs already in flight, including:
Participating in defining and carrying out the Infrastructure Engineering strategy, including the separation and management of production support and project Infrastructure engineering resources and standards
Planning and delivering program-level resourcing, capacity planning and costs consistent with Group CIO and Canadian CIO commitments and targets
Delivering quality changes to Production (in support of change activities) in compliance with group standards, methods, and ways of working.
Owning Infrastructure Engineering compliance with IT and Business Standards
Key accountabilities:
Set technology strategy and high-level Infrastructure technology roadmap for Canada, including 3-year roadmaps.
Identify and drive innovation, standardisation and simplification
Develop the framework, governance and oversight, in alignment to the overall Canadian IT Governance processes and standards
Operational leadership and ongoing improvement of Canadian Infrastructure services, which is critical to delivery of target technology execution
Drives fulfilment of business objectives that are aligned to the Canadian business, broader Aviva Business, and Group CIO strategy, tailoring the strategy as appropriate
Strategy
Manage highly complex and dependencies across IT functions to ensure that risk, controls, security and delivery outcomes are achieved to avoid impact and failure to Aviva, stakeholders, regulators and customers
Key engagement with Regulator and oversight organization to drive and influence Regulation to support Aviva’s strategy
Commercial agreement and Sourcing strategy across critical supplier outsource arrangement, in alignment with the Group strategies and agreements
Service
Deliver a high performing Infrastructure Engineering service, ensuring operational services meet business needs, controls and risks are handled and services are adequately maintained
Ensure services are secure and keep pace with the threat landscape
Nature of Work
Defines approach and leads on the implementation of developments to develop design-driven Infrastructure engineering solutions and program delivery.
Designs, implements, and embeds Infrastructure Engineering standards and best practices across the IT function.
Develops a team with increased technical depth and a staffing strategy to increase internal technical talent and make the best use of contract and outsourced resources.
Develop Infrastructure Engineering strategy to deliver a component of the Enterprise Architecture roadmap, aligning to re-use, standardisation and remediation of Technical Debt and Simplification targets
Lead the delivery of customer-centric, enterprise-wide design supporting low cost retail-style business operations with standard, re-usable components that are scalable, highly performant with operational integrity
Monitor design exceptions and technical debt, and align to remediation activity targets
Low level functional design consistent with agreed standards, processes and ways of working, ensuring delivery of solution components is aligned to E2E solution design
Capabilities
University Degree in Computer Science/Computer Engineering. MBA is an asset
Deep experience in Agile methodologies
Experience of both line and matrix leadership
Strong leadership skills – able to inspire, energize and motivate people around our vision, values and objectives
Experience of leading within a large sophisticated business
Experience leading sophisticated outsourced relationships
Ability to anticipate future trends and needs as well as leading the current environment
