Responsibilities

The Research Assistant contributes to the General Surgery Research Collaborative, a particular research study or division by assisting with study administration, providing general administrative support, and maintaining study data.

SPECIFIC ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Completes Case Report Forms in conjunction with the PI and/or Manager and/or Coordinator
  • Processes and submits forms to Research Ethics Board (REB)
  • Prepares specimens for shipment, as applicable
  • Contacts study subjects to book diagnostic/clinical tests, assessments, and appointments
  • Administers, scores and records results for study tests (e.g., questionnaires)
  • Assists with subject screening by accessing patient charts
  • Acts as a point of contact by providing information or direction when answering, screening and referring telephone calls, emails, faxes, and/or in-person inquiries
  • Replies to routine correspondence and composes and edits letters, documents, and general memoranda
  • Orders, maintains, and monitors offices supplies
  • Attends, records, and distributes minutes for meetings
  • Faxes, photocopies, books rooms, catering and meetings, and other related clerical functions
  • Coordinates incoming and outgoing mail and arranges for courier services
  • Processes invoices and financial payments
  • Acquires signatures for regulatory documents
  • Collects data related to study
  • Develops and maintains filing systems for subject and study documentation
  • Files study documents, test results, etc
  • Develops and maintains methods of tracking information through databases and spreadsheets
  • Enters, summarizes, and analyses data using database and/or spreadsheets
  • Archives documentation related to study once it has closed and develops and maintains a method of retrieval from storage

Performs other related duties as required

Qualifications

  • Completion of or currently enrolled in post-secondary education in a Health Science and/or Science related field required
  • Two years’ research related experience preferred
  • CCRP (Certified Clinical Research Professional) or CCRA (Certified Clinical Research Associate) an asset
  • TCPS2: CORE Certification considered an asset
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Access, Excel, PowerPoint), email and internet
  • Proficiency with current NS Health systems (STAR, PHS and/or LIS) an asset
  • Effective communication, problem solving and decision-making skills
  • Ability to draft, format and edit office correspondence
  • Medical terminology course considered an asset
  • Well-developed organizational, time management and daily planning skills
  • Ability to work well independently as well as within a multi-disciplinary team environment
  • Previous experience in a health care/research setting is strongly preferred
  • Previous experience in grant proposal writing, REB applications considered an asset
  • Previous experience in database design and administration considered an asset

Hours of Work

Long assignment, part-time position, 37.5 hrs bi-weekly
Beginning Feb 1, 2022 with an expected end date of Feb 1, 2024 (Approximately 24 months)
This assignment may be renewed at the end of the contract, pending need

Salary Information

$20.6437 – $25.8046

(depending on level of experience)
