About the role

The Regional Specialist of Technology and Cyber Security Risk (TCSR) role-holder works for the Second Line of Defense (2LoD) Operational and Resilience Risk (ORR) team.

The Specialist of TCSR is charged with helping to protect the HSBC brand, shareholder value, Systems, Information and financial assets across Canada from disruption in the following ways:

  • Providing effective and fully auditable 2LOD oversight, advice, and challenge of TCSR across the Region in order to minimize disruptions to business services
  • Engaging relevant regional stakeholders (CEOs, COOs, CROs, HOST/CIO Technology, Security etc.) to understand, measure and maintain visibility on their risk profile, appetite, incidents and control effectiveness and to provide robust risk challenge and advice to the same audience when disruptions to business systems occur or risk appetites are breached.
  • Partnering with Global Business, Functions and Entities, help to grow the bank safely, maintain the trust of our customer by embedding Resilience and operation Risk as core risk management principles
  • Develop and maintain effective and close relationships with respective in-country financial Regulators for TCSR related audits and requirements set-out in policy, law and regulation.
  • Overseeing compliance with HSBC Operational Risk, Technology and Information Security Policies and standards in the region.
  • Ensuring an effective engagement process is in place across the region that is demonstrably adding value to all target stakeholders
  • Ensuring close coordination with the 1LOD Functions and businesses to ensure their risk management processes remain fully aligned to the rest of the organisation
  • Acting as a point of escalation to provide guidance with TCSR issues and events within the region, and engaging with senior management and external regulators as required
  • Providing Regional input to the development of global Resilience Risk Policies and standards
  • Ensure the Resilience Risk catalog of services provided by the 2LoD is conducted for TCSR, meeting timelines and with high quality

Responsibilities:

  • Provide advice and guidance regarding risks to business systems and IT processes development regionally, including appropriate engagement between ISR, IT, Risk Management and the business.
  • Manage regional awareness of, monitoring for, and response to top and emerging threats and Risks.
  • Oversee and provide guidance on the deployment and monitoring of Operational Risk policies and technology controls across the region in accordance with HSBC, regulatory and industry standards.

  • Provide 2LOD leadership for TCSR Business engagement across the Region, driving consistency of Risk reporting and monitoring, and standardisation of controls.
  • Support the business in the implementation of Risk and Control Assessments for TCSR

Requirements

  • University Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant subject (Cyber Security, Technology, Risk Management etc).
  • Technology & Information Security Certifications (e.g., ITIL, CRISC, CISM) and relevant advanced postgraduate degrees a plus (MBA, MSc, PhD).
  • Strong background in, and understanding of, risk management practices with previous experience in the 2LoD an asset
  • Extensive experience and in-depth knowledge of Technology & Information Security
  • Good understanding of business dynamics; strong awareness of business issues and risks, and a strong ability to communicate TCSR in this context.
  • Ability to manage effectively in a matrix environment
  • Strong influencing and relationship management skills
  • Strong negotiation skills
  • Ability to demonstrate sound judgement and decision making based around the Group’s core values
  • Strong leadership and management skills
  • Fluency in business English required.
