Rogers is currently looking for a Manager, Access Optimization and Engineering. This position will report to the Director Access Planning and Engineering West . The successful candidate will lead a team responsible for the Optimization for the west and RF engineering in the Alberta/Mid-West region.

What you will be doing… Lead a team of both radio-frequency engineers and optimization specialists for the access networks west in the design of new sites, technology upgrades, coverage solutions and in-building systems. Collaborate with the implementation team to communicate requirements and priorities for new site acquisition, capacity augmentation, and new technology rollout to ensure timely delivery of programs. Ensure that installations are compliant with all government and safety requirements. Monitor market performance and develop solutions to improve customer experience. Support other business units within Rogers.

Job Description and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for end to end new site radio systems design, integration and performance for macro and small cells using GSM/UMTS/LTE and NR technology
  • Responsible for SC6 compliance of sites as per ISED guidelines and requirements
  • Apply propagation theory, cellular theory, RF engineering tools and antenna theory to select cell site placement, antenna height, site configuration, tilt and power to maximize coverage, capacity and performance of the network
  • Use network performance tool to analyze network stats and pinpoint performance issues of wireless network
  • Statistical analysis, automation of tools and report generation

Teamwork/Leadership/Reporting :

  • Collaborate with project stakeholders from other engineering disciplines (ex. Planning, Core Networks, OSS, PMO, Operations and NOC, etc)
  • Project management, planning and resource management
  • Excellent written, oral and interpersonal communication skills
  • Work effectively with equipment and service vendors and provide executive level professional presentations of engineering results and recommendations

  • Proven ability to lead and direct within department and provide direction and guidance to internal and external groups.
  • Highly motivated individual with superior organizational and analytical skills.
  • Specific background in projects involving multiple geographic regions, cross-functional teams

Qualifications :

  • Minimum 5 years experience in wireless telecom industry
  • University Degree in Engineering (Electrical, Telecommunications)
  • Must have or be eligible for Professional Engineering designation with APEGA
  • Radio wireless network design and RF engineering project lead
  • Strong understanding and experience working on GSM/UMTS/LTE/NR
  • Excellent understanding of radio propagation principles for wireless spectrum.
  • Good theoretical understanding of Tx/Rx Radio and Antenna system design
  • Good knowledge of network KPI and parameter (Ericsson OSS preferred)
  • Worked proficiently with Planet RF tool (or equivalent) and EMF Visual for SC6 analyses
  • Highly motivated individual with superior organizational and analytical skills.
  • Excellent writing, communication and presentation skills.
