Purpose

The Manager of Maintenance Engineering leads a team of Maintenance Planners and QA/QC Technicians, and is responsible for deployment and execution of maintenance strategies, as well as quality assurance of operational and maintenance/retrofit/upgrade activities, with Liberty’s processes procedures work instructions, standards, within the Unregulated Renewable Energy Business Group. This includes managing and/or supporting the execution of regular maintenance as well as remedial activities, to closure. This position is also responsible for divisional maintenance quality goals and objectives, resulting in the reduction of maintenance and quality incidents and associated costs; as well as improved/enhanced customer service provided to the Operations team.

Accountabilities

  • Works as an effective member of the Operations Engineering team, while providing strong leadership, direction and coaching for matrix reports and direct reports, as applicable.
  • Communicates closely with Operations Staff, Regulatory & Compliance team, APM and the ROC, Asset Strategy, Energy Services, EHS, Business Development and other internal stakeholders as well as external partners Contractors and Service Providers
  • Provides support to Maintenance Planners, Technicians and QA/QC staff in response to Operations issues.
  • Recruits, trains, motivates, directs, and evaluates direct reports.
  • Responsible for the deployment and execution of Maintenance Strategy & Quality Assurance for Liberty Power Renewable Energy Assets, in North America – including Wind Turbine facilities, Solar Facilities, Hydroelectric Facilities and Thermal Generating stations.
  • Analyzes and interprets Maintenance-related data & metrics, and prepares and presents performance reports, including summarizing methods employed and results obtained.
  • Establishes and supports the development, documentation, and deployment of new and/or existing Maintenance Plans, Procedures, Quality Control expectations, standards, and initiatives related to operations, engineering, and sustaining-projects activity applicable to Liberty Power facilities.
  • Establishes requirements for, and drive development and deployment of condition monitoring infrastructure (ex. CMS), to enable data-driven decision making in relation to maintenance planning.
  • Ensures that maintenance and other project activity (performed by internal teams or contractors) complies with applicable processes, procedures, standards – both internal and applicable external / regulatory.
  • Interfaces and supports various external functional groups including equipment OEMs, O&M Service providers, project and technical contractors
  • Provide project planning services for projects related to Maintenance and Quality Initiatives including preparing; (1) scope of work definition, (2) budget estimating, and (3) project scheduling for the purpose of project justification and obtaining project approval, including revisions as required.
  • Lead, Manage and Execute small to intermediate Maintenance projects and activities related to facilities, equipment, and/or governance, processes and procedures
  • Actively participates in, and supports the preparation of Annual Budgets, and Long-Term Plans for Maintenance and Quality Initiatives related to CAPEX and OPEX projects
  • Manage external contractors, service providers and consultants including the preparation of scope of work and request for proposal documents, evaluating proposals, executing commercial agreements, and managing the work.
  • React to changes in work assignments and priority and undertake all other tasks as assigned.
  • Perform all work treating worker and public safety as paramount and in compliance with all environmental and other regulatory requirements.

Education and Experience

  • Education or equivalent in Engineering or similar.
  • 5+ years of experience
  • Experience managing remote teams preferred
  • Experience required in CMMS systems, and SAP
  • Demonstrated communication skills written and verbal including negotiation and conflict resolution
  • Must have strong computer skills, including Office suite (MS Excel, Word, Powerpoint)
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Ability to align, motivate and lead a team including defining and delegating accountability
