The Specialist, Data & Analytics (ETL – Engineering) will guide our data operations and bring rigor to the development and management of data pipelines. Air Canada is introducing a new cloud based ETL / Warehouse automation tool. The specialist will establish, communicate and enforce the use of our DataOps best practices.

Responsibilities:

Primary contact with ETL/Warehouse automation software vendors. Maximize our vendor relationship in order ensure software support, facilitate staff development, stay abreast of new features.
Lead the on-boarding efforts surrounding the new ETL tool with the vendor and coordinate with required Air Canada resources.
Understand and plan how to optimize new ETL pipeline development with the various built-in accelerators, and plan for the creation of custom reusable templates.
Plan the required characteristics of our pipelines to include optimal performance, data quality and automated alert monitoring.
Develop rules and process to control the integrity (accuracy, thoroughness, process compliance) of all data.
Coordinate coaching and mentoring of engineers new to our tools and standards.
Prepare and maintain a Center of Excellence for our DataOps tools and practices as a central reference for all interested parties in Air Canada.
Plan to create a knowledge base of ETL issues both outstanding and resolved to accelerate future resolution time.
Plan and design dashboards to track ETL cycle’s execution times, failures both current and historic trends.
Align with DevOps to facilitate smooth deployments.
Provide technical guidance and expertise to both technical and non-technical teams.
Collaborating with programmers, analyst (data engineers), and organizational leaders to identify opportunities for process improvements and recommend system modifications.
Work with other engineers to brainstorm solutions to problems and support others in their goals.
Use strong analytical skills and support use of data for sound decision making.
Develop expertise around the data and it flows.
Integrate ETL related metadata with Data Governance tooling meta data.

Qualifications

Degree in Engineering, Computer Science or Mathematics/Statistics.

Minimum of 9 years of IT technology or experience in a similar capacity in a large company.

Demonstrated proficiency in Java, Python, SQL.

In-depth knowledge and experience with Big Data technologies (e.g Azure, Snowflakes, conventional data warehouse, Hadoop, Columnar Databases or Graph Databases), and with ETL and Ingestion technologies (e.g DataBricks, Informatica, Data Stage)

Experience for coaching or managing a team is required.

Track record working with data from multiple sources and experience in dissecting the data to deliver results.

Proven ability to exhibit sound judgement, keen eye for details and tenacity for solving difficult problems.

Proven capability to gather, manage and synthesize large amounts of information efficiently, effectively and creatively with attention to detail.

Ability to work cooperatively with others on a team and be able to effectively drive cross-team solutions that have complex dependencies and requirements.

Must possess strong communication (verbal and written), research and interpersonal skills as well as excellent time-management and organizational skills, with a proven ability to be highly productive and efficient in a team driven environment.

Must have strong problem-solving and analytical skills.

Experience in Airline data management is an asset.
