Job description: ERM is looking for a Process Safety and Risk Management System Consultant with practical experience in the industrial sector (mining, chemical, energy, oil and gas) to join our Eastern Canada team. This is a full time position. The ideal candidate has strong technical capabilities in process safety and risk management processes to help our clients proactively respond to the technological risks they face.
As a high-level process safety and risk management consultant, the chosen candidate will participate in risk analyses of varying levels of complexity. They will support clients in identifying and developing critical control management plans and participate in targeted audits on the effectiveness of measures to mitigate major risks for customers. In addition, they will provide support to meet technological risk management needs, whether in our offices or at customer sites, locally, nationally and potentially internationally.
They will receive support, training and coaching from their team members throughout their career and will be part of the global ERM network of sustainability professionals.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Act as facilitator of hazard identification and risk analysis sessions (HAZID, What-if, HAZOP, Bowtie, LOPA).
- Develop risk management plans, risk registers, and risk control plans
- Develop critical control management plans.
- Audit and issue recommendations on health and safety management systems.
- Ideally provide technical assistance for health and safety compliance projects, including the development and implementation of management systems.
- Conduct and oversee consequence modeling using DNV PHAST
- Participate in Environmental Social Impact Assessment that involve technological risk (consequence modeling and likelihood calculations)
- Perform compliance audits and implement corrective follow-up measures to ensure compliance with regulatory frameworks.
- Support due diligence projects during mandates related to acquisitions and mergers that include technological risk or process safety components.
- Support ERM’s growing Sustainability Practice, conducting research and data analysis on material issues facing our Clients
- Communicate with technical resources and team members to complete work within the set budget, schedule and scope of work.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor or master’s degree in engineering (chemical or mechanical).
- Licensed Professional engineer in Canada (P. Eng), in good standing.
- Ideally bilingual in French and English.
- 8-10 years of professional experience in a relevant field, focused on the mining, energy, oil, gas, or chemical sectors.
- Strong interest in sustainable development issues.
- Self motivated.
- Client focused, able to complete high quality work in the time and budget allocated.
- Mentoring jr staff for process safety and risk management.
- Ability to work independently, while collaborating with a team, to accomplish complex tasks.
- Ability to multi-task and handle several projects simultaneously.
- Proven ability to interpret provincial and federal health and safety laws and regulations applicable in Canada.
- Strong commitment to safety, including adherence to established health and safety protocols.
- Excellent communicator, strong interpersonal and analytical skills, experience writing technical reports.
- Experience in organizational management systems (ISO 45001/PSM) (either as a consultant or as a user) is an asset.
- Ability to travel for work, up to 30% of role.
- Valid drivers’ license and good driving record.
