Job description: JOB SUMMARY

Manufacturing is responsible for maintenance and Manufacturing services at Chalk River Laboratories. The Manufacturing Services Section is responsible for providing fabrication services to: Central Technical Authority, Capital, Environment Remediation Management, Science & Technology, and Business Development at Chalk River Laboratories and external customers.

The Assessment group within Manufacturing Services is an important part of the fabrication process interfacing with customers to establish the complete scope of work for complex work requests.

The Manufacturing Assessor/Planner is an important member of the Manufacturing Services group interfacing with the customers to establish the complete scope of work for complex work requests.

Based on these job requirements, the Assessor prepares the corresponding work package and initiates procurement for the trades.

DUTIES

Interface with customers and identify full scope of work

  • Attend weekly scheduling meetings to establish job priorities and scope changes that may impact on cost and schedule.
  • Identify potential workplace hazards and issues relating to jurisdictional requirements/codes.
  • Identify materials and special tooling requirements.

Prepare work packages.

  • Interface with other support groups for drawings, IRRs, etc.
  • Identify appropriate level of documentation and prepare corresponding work plan including procedures/manuals, equipment/components. Plan and schedule work in Resource Scheduling System.
  • Establish commitment to cost and schedule/monitor job status

Procurement of Materials and Equipment.

  • Estimate and procure materials from CRL stores or prepare a purchase order for off-site procurement.
  • Monitor/expedite materials ETA’s
  • Interface with Procurement to ensure tasks are scheduled based on accurate ETA information

QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

Must be a fully qualified trades person
OR
Graduate from a recognized institute of advanced technology, or equivalent formal education.

Experience:

  • Must have five years of relevant experience.
  • Must have experience with selection of process equipment relevant to the manufacturing process.

Abilities and Skills:

  • Must be familiar with business software such as E-mail, MS Word, MS Excel, etc.
  • Must have good interpersonal skills
  • The employee must be a self-starter with good problem solving skills. The employee will make recommendations for repair, modification, fabrication and procurement of components/equipment.
  • Good oral and written communication skills are needed.

Job/Industry Specific Knowledge:

  • Must have knowledge of machine shop equipment and their capabilities combined with basic estimating skills relevant to the machine shop process.
  • Must have a basic understanding of nuclear and conventional ASME and Canadian piping and pressure vessel codes.
  • Must have a basic understanding of CSA, ISO and W47.1 quality programs.

This role is based out of CNL’s Chalk River, which will be the designated workplace. CNL may require travel from time to time, as necessary.
