Alberta Health Services IT has an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated and client focused Senior Project Manager to join our project delivery team within the Provincial Support Services Project portfolio. The Senior Project Manager plays a key role in the inception, design, implementation, and closure of major clinical information system projects. These large initiatives may be provincial or regional in nature. You will provide high-level leadership to deliver business benefits through IT solutions.

Description:

Project Management Accountabilities: Manages the creation of a project charter with input from executive sponsors, business leadership and required SMEs and project team members. Develops and coordinates an overriding project plan and timeline for the project. Provides deliverable based budget estimates and manages financials based on these estimates. Leads and manages cross-functional project team members including vendor resources. Identifies risks, develops strategies for risk mitigation and contingency planning. Identifies, analyses and resolves issues affecting cost, schedule, or quality. Monitors project progress against standards, timelines, plans, and budget; actively identifying and resolving issues affecting timely completion. Monitors deliverables and project milestones and creates status and financial reports. Ensures vendors meet their contractual agreement on all projects, define their contributions, ensure follow up. Participates in the negotiation of vendor contracts, statements of work, and contributes to reviews of contracted and vendor resources. Implements engagement review and quality assurance procedures in accordance with AHS methodology to ensure successful execution of projects. Conducts post implementation review and closure of project according to a set process. Strategic Accountabilities: Takes strategic visions and directions from AHS executive leadership. Aligns business needs with IT solutions. Communicates / manages expectations and represents the organization’s interests to numerous internal and external stakeholders.

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree and completion of a project management designation. Equivalencies in experience may be considered. 10+ years of progressive, senior project management experience in a large / complex IT environment. Extensive knowledge of project management principles, PMO tools / methodologies, and project governance concepts. Demonstrated experience with large complex projects, an ability to work with ambiguity, works well under pressure, and a record of managing successfully under these conditions. Experience working in a complex matrixed organization.
Additional Required Qualifications:

Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Preferred Qualifications:

Additional training and/or certifications related related to project management. Demonstrates a commitment to progressively higher-level education. Healthcare knowledge and experience preferred.
