The Manager, Finance is responsible for the financial analysis of Automotive Finance’s results and preparation of plans and forecasts. The completed analyses must provide AF&IL Management with a focussed understanding of historical and projected financial performance, highlighting opportunities for enhanced profitability and improved performance in all AF&IL products. The Manager provides financial advisory support and service to Senior Manager, Pricing & Finance, Directors, Vice-Presidents, and Senior Vice-President, Automotive Finance & Indirect Lending (AF&IL).
Key Accountabilities:
- Manages the comprehensive financial review, analysis and evaluation of AF&IL’s performance and regular and ad-hoc internal and external reporting highlighting significant trends and developments and the business, economic and market factors underpinning the results. This analysis must measure performance against established benchmarks – the Bank’s strategic and business objectives, the returns expected from specific initiatives or expenditures, the annual profit plan targets and market potential. The primary users of the reports are AF&IL Management and the Bank’s Executive Management. Commentary must be relevant for the users and provide an information framework for decision-making and management action.
- Manages the preparation of AF&IL’s Profit Plan proposals for next fiscal year, 3-year strategy, and stress testing that cover volume growth, margins, non-interest revenue targets and AF&IL operating expense budgets, in the context of AF&IL business objectives, opportunities and historical performance patterns. This entails conducting the comprehensive analysis/evaluation and critique of the volumes, non-interest revenue (NIRs) and non-interest expenses (NIEs) recommendations pertaining to AF&IL products and preparing detailed profit plans for the Dealer Finance Centres (DFCs).
- Manages the preparation of AF&IL Business Case Pool plan, Marketing Budget, and Capital Expenditure Forecast, based on the business priorities for AF&IL.
- Manages the preparation of periodic forecasts required by Canadian Banking Finance for volumes, NIR, operating expenses, and marketing expenses, based on the analysis of the historical trends, seasonality, market competitive landscape, macroeconomic trends, and the information about projected new product/program launches.
- Manages the implementation, maintenance and preparation of an Indirect Retail Margin Analysis model using an effective interest rate methodology to assess, forecast and plan the margin impact of portfolio run-off, new loan/lease originations, subvention, volume bonus/dealer reserve and one-time adjustments to the Net Interest Margin.
- Provides ongoing responsive, professional financial management advice, recommendations and support to the Senior Manager, Pricing and Finance, Directors, VPs, and SVP, Automotive Finance & Indirect Lending. This includes the preparation, presentation, and review of financial information in addressing AF&IL’s financial results for delivery to other departments, and providing resolution of queries, problems or issues of concern of a financial nature within AF&IL. The Manager also prepares the financial component of the business cases developed at AF&IL.
- Contributes to successful team performance in accordance with the Department’s Team Credo. This encompasses support to other team members, individual contribution to the team and shared responsibility for team attainment of objectives.
- Other Accountabilities:
- Ensuring compliance to AML (Anti-Money Laundering) and KYC (Know Your Customer) policy;
- Ensuring adherence to Information, Security and Policy Privacy Requirements;
- Occupational Health & Safety Officer, as assigned.
Experience / Education:
- University degree in business, accounting, or finance is required
- A thorough understanding of financial and management accounting principles, ideally possessing an accounting designation/MBA
- Database related (MS Access, SQL scripts) work experience required
- Strong knowledge of the banking industry with demonstrated analytical skills
- Solid knowledge of Automotive Finance products is desirable
- Working understanding of the Bank’s project management, profit planning, budgeting and financial reporting processes
- Thorough working knowledge of relational databases and office productivity applications including MS Word, MS Excel, MS Access, MS PowerPoint
- Working knowledge of the Bank’s Flooring & Leasing, Scotia Plan Loans (Retail Lending Platform), ALS COM Application Adjudication, On-Line Loans systems, Monthly Branch Reports (MBR), and Customer Knowledge and Insights (CK&I) Decision Management System is desirable
