Job title: Manager, Information Technology
Job description: The Manager, Information Technology is responsible for managing the information technology, administration systems, services and IT infrastructure in the Faculty of Applied Sciences. The Manager, Information Technology provides leadership to the IT enterprise in Applied Sciences, and is responsible for leading information systems analysis, design, and development. The Manager, Information Technology reviews, evaluates, and recommends emerging hardware and software technologies to support web and systems development. This position enables experimental and innovation research in the fields of computer and engineering science by supporting high performance of computing, and by analyzing, designing and procuring IT software and hardware for research projects, project management. The Manager, Information Technology is responsible for adherence to IT best practices.
Qualifications:
Master’s degree of Computing Science or related discipline and eight years related experience in systems administration, technical support, and programming, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Excellent knowledge of teaching and research standards, science laboratory requirements and configurations.
- Excellent knowledge of innovative computer research topics and techniques.
- Excellent knowledge of servers, peripherals, network routing and design, cloud-based computing, virtualization and system security.
- Excellent knowledge of current operating system, deployment, and configuration methods or equivalent.
- Excellent knowledge of web development programming languages, including JavaScript, HTML and CSS.
- Good knowledge of program languages, including: Java, C++, Python.
- Good knowledge of best practices for hardware design including standard applications for design and version control.
- Good knowledge of related laboratory health and safety guidelines/regulations (University, Provincial, Federal), risk management assessment, and safety equipment/procedures.
- Excellent planning, organizational ability, analytical reasoning, negotiation and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication (oral, written and presentation) skills.
- Excellent management, financial and human resource management skills.
- Demonstrated ability in customer service.
- Excellent ability to diagnose and resolve programs associated with end user hardware, network connectivity, operating systems and software installation.
- Ability to use cloudStack, FreeNAS, VMWare, EqualLogic SANs or equivalent.
- Ability to specify, deploy, and maintain Linux and Windows Servers, Linux, Windows, and Mac OS workstations, virtualization hypervisors and virtual machines.
- Ability to interpret and apply complex policies and procedures.
- Ability to manage large complex projects with multiple stakeholders and partners
- Ability to install, configure and debug hardware such as high-performance computer-servers for reliability and performance.
- Ability to arrange suitable transportation to various work locations.
- Fully proficient in all aspects of the engineering user environment, including Linux Windows, and MAC OS.
