Position Description: The Neuroscience Program, within the Faculty of Science, invites applications for Winter 2023 Term Sessional Instructor(s).
The successful candidate(s) will have responsibilities for the instruction and associated duties for the following two half-courses during the Winter 2023 term.
NEUR 401 – Advanced Neuroscience Laboratory
Using invertebrate model systems and computer modelling, this laboratory course introduces students to common laboratory skills, instrumentation, analysis and experimental techniques, concepts and principles in studying nervous system structure and function. Topics include experimental design, data analysis, neurophysiology, behavioural analysis, imaging, axonal tracing, instrumentation, and computer modelling of neuronal function. The course aligns with and expands on the lecture course NEUR 411 Cellular & Systems Neuroscience, taught in parallel. The course is delivered in two 6-hour per-week sections.
Teaching Schedule: MW 11:00-13:50 and MW 14:00-16:50.
Delivery Mode: The course may be offered via a blended online/in-person mode.
NEUR 507.xx – Principles in Discovery and Development of Nervous System Therapeutics
The course will cover topics related to the process and industry of drug development, how drugs work, and how the body processes drugs, focusing on the nervous system. Topics may include basic principles of pharmacology and drug targeting, fundamentals of nervous system signaling, current and emerging therapeutic targets for common nervous system disorders, principles, processes and practices of drug discovery, development, review, and approval.

Winter 2023 Term Dates: Monday, January 3, 2023, to Friday, April 28, 2023
Qualifications:
- Candidates must have a Ph.D. in neuroscience and a vital and substantial record demonstrating teaching excellence.
- The appointee(s) are expected to have a broad cross-disciplinary basis in the theory and practice of neuroscience and will be expected to have a working knowledge of current developments in fundamental and clinical neuroscience.
- Previous experience in teaching physiological, pharmacological, and pharmaceutical aspects of drug design, development and application is required.
- Practical experience using invertebrate models in Neuroscience education is essential.
- Affinity with entrepreneurial dimensions of the Neuroscience research field will be considered a valuable asset.
- The candidate should have experience with the Desire 2 Learn (D2L) course management system and prior experience with online/blended learning course delivery models.
