Your role
Part of the Treasury & Risk Management group in the Corporate Finance department, the main responsibilities of this position will include work duties in both the Treasury and Risk Management sectors.
Work is subject only to general review so there is opportunity for independent judgments and decision-making within the parameters of established operating procedures. Work may involve coordinating the activities of others inside or outside the unit, or assigning and checking the work of other employees. Understanding potential implications and being able to identify issues that require escalation is essential. Tasks include the following:
Treasury:
Ensures all banking and cash management transactions are complete, accurate and timely and prepares journal entries for approval
Reconciles main corporate bank accounts on a daily basis
Investigates discrepancies to ensure that there are no errors or fraudulent activities in the corporate bank accounts
Prepares and documents monthly bank reconciliations for all corporate bank accounts
Prepares daily cash forecast by accumulating relevant data from a variety of sources (ex SAP, internal emails, bank webportals)
Creates, updates and maintains large and complex spreadsheets – for example, those supporting finance, banking, currency and investment transactions and/or systems interfacing with external agencies
Adapts working document (e.g., spreadsheets) and procedures to changing requirements
Provides advice and guidance to users to ensure that they derive maximum benefit from the information and systems available
Compiles information and prepares reports, either as part of routine reporting requirements or in response to special requests from within or without the unit, department or operation
Investigates departmental or administrative problems within area of expertise.
Researches and compiles information and data to arrive at a solution and either implements, if within accepted parameters, or recommends to the appropriate level of authority
Administers complex processes dealing with payment issues such as stop payments and authorizations to replace cheques
Examines financial reports, logs, activity reports or other similar documents to identify errors, conflicts or discrepancies and takes necessary action within established parameters to resolve the matters. Action could include initiating or verifying corrections to banking errors or preparing, entering and posting SAP journal entries, the issuing of credit notes, the reassignment of charges to other areas, the collection of monies owed, etc.
Risk Management:
Creates, updates and maintains large and complex spreadsheets and databases
Adapts spreadsheet and/or database to changing requirements; provides advice and guidance to users to ensure that they achieve maximum benefit from the information and systems available
Compiles information and prepares reports, either as part of routine reporting requirements or in response to special requests from within or without the unit, department or operation
Investigates departmental or administrative problems within area of expertise
Researches and compiles information and data to arrive at a solution and either implements, if within accepted parameters, or recommends to the appropriate level of authority
Processes and maintains the documentation for complex administrative processes such as the certificate of insurance requests and insurance claims files
Provide interpretation and/or clarification to employees, managers and/or clients regarding policies and procedures within area of expertise, verify accounting documents, analyze financial information, and prepare statistical data and preliminary financial information
Assist in the design of research projects, compile data, develop and create the appropriate statistical tables, manipulate the data, and design charts, graphs and tables for presentation
Provide training on insurance and claim related applications
Coordinate functions on behalf of the department
Qualifications
We are looking for a candidate with the following:
Graduation from Community College or the equivalent, preferably a college diploma or a university degree (B. Com.) in Accounting or Finance
A minimum of two years’ experience in a business accounting or finance department, banking services, either working in the banking sector or as a bank client or the equivalent working experience
Bilingualism (written and oral) required
Strong working knowledge and understanding of Windows-based software (i.e., Excel, Word, Access) and bank webportals
Knowledge of SAP is an asset, General Ledger and Bank modules in particular
Familiarity with CBC Shared Services operations and CBC legacy systems (i.e., VIP or Local Payroll) would be an asset
Basic knowledge of foreign exchange operations as it applies to purchasing foreign currencies and to recording accounting transactions
Basic knowledge of short-term investments and to recording accounting transactions
Analytical thinker, precise and detail-oriented
Well-organized
Must show initiative, creativity and judgment in analyzing situations. Ability to work comfortably and efficiently with senior management and personnel from financial institutions
Must be capable of working independently and effectively as a team member
