Sr Business Partner Industry Affairs Crop Science

Reporting to the Director, Government & Industry Affairs for the Crop Science division, the Senior Business Partner, Industry Affairs, will be responsible for maintaining and building Crop Science Canada freedom to operate through education and outreach, focusing on stakeholders and industry relations. This role is accountable for advocacy and engagement strategy development and implementation related to the company’s crop science business (short and long-term) to defend existing products/business models and solutions, to ensure new products, business models and solutions to enter the market and to support development of science-based policies that enable our business objectives in innovation, sustainability, and digital transformation. This role will ensure alignment within the country, regional and global PASS teams.

What you will do:

  • Support government affairs on agriculture, environmental, bio-economy, and sustainability issues in line with our national agenda
  • Lead stakeholder analysis and outreach for Crop Science topics
  • Develop and drive the implementation of advocacy strategies and engagement plans with regards to portfolio under responsibility
  • Lead writing of policy advocacy positions and issue briefs related to portfolio under responsibility and contribute to North American and global policy advocacy positions and issue briefs
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships and an effective network with industry associations, grower organizations and other relevant stakeholders relevant to our agricultural business and active in agricultural and sustainability policy
  • Work with cross-functional teams to drive effective issue management and positive policy outcomes in Canada, and ensure coordinated approach with Crop Science and Platform colleagues at country level, with a strong focus on business impact and Bayer Crop Science License To Operate (LTO)
  • Represent Bayer Crop Science’s interests in relevant trade associations and drive Canadian coalition engagement to precipitate positive policy outcomes in areas relevant to our business objectives
  • Provide industry issue monitoring services and react/respond as appropriate with regards to portfolio under responsibility
  • Act as an ambassador for Bayer Crop Science in the Canadian agricultural, sustainability and food systems value chain

Who you are:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Business, or related field from an accredited college or university
  • Minimum eight (8) years of experience in public policy work, communications, public or industry affairs or similar field
  • Understanding of biotechnology, crop protection and the Canadian (plant) agricultural industry
  • Demonstrated experience with a wide range of agriculture and food supply chain stakeholders, policies, and processes
  • Knowledge of policies governing biotechnology, crop protection, and seeds affecting plant agriculture, including use, domestic and international implications
  • Team player with excellent interpersonal and communication skills and known to be proactive; able to develop collaborative relationships based on trust and accountability with various stakeholders both internal and external to achieve objectives
  • Fluent in English with French being a strong asset
  • Strong curiosity, learning capacity and independent decision-making ability
  • Strong business acumen with an agricultural focus
  • Excellent presentation (written and verbal) communication skills
  • Proven ability as self-starter, and effective problem solver with strong analytic skills
  • Effectively deals with ambiguity, complexity, and uncertainty
  • Ability to quickly step in and support objectives outside of direct business portfolio
  • Willingness and ability to travel nationally
