The Perinatal Registered Nurse will be working in BC Women’s Hospital’s Maternity Ambulatory Program (MAP), primarily supporting both the Diabetes in Pregnancy program and the Fetal Monitoring (NST – non-stress tests) service. Key responsibilites include:
- Teach individuals and groups and sharing existing educational information
- Collaborate with the multi-disciplinary diabetes team (Nurses, Dieticians, Physiotherapists, and Endocrinologists) to provide diabetes education and care in a fast-paced, high patient volume environment
- A strong willingness to extend their knowledge about diabetes in pregnancy and ability to evaluate the learning needs of others,
- Ability to relate effectively to pregnant persons and their families
What you’ll do
- Participate as a member of a multidisciplinary team (physician, clinicians, social worker, nutritionist, residents, etc.) in providing nursing care for clinic patients. This includes assessment planning, implementing and evaluation of care plans.
- Coordinate referral and care of complex patients.
- Coordinate in hospital or community referrals for specific patients. Maintain liaison with other hospital programs and community resources.
- Provide orientation to MSI, residents, fellows and nurses for specific clinic services.
- Participate in Quality assurance activities for the program, i.e. chart audits and compiling statistics.
- Provide education materials and phone consultation to other care providers in the Province of BC as requested (outreach).
- Educate patients on aspects of pregnancy, labour, delivery and postpartum care by providing appropriate reading material, resources and explanations of care management.
What you bring
- Graduation from an approved School of Nursing with current practicing registration as an RN with the British Columbia College of Nurses & Midwives (BCCNM).
- Two (2) years recent related experience in caring for of obstetrically complex women including experience in fetal monitoring and/or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Certification in Cardiotocography required.
- Current CPR
