Your Challenge

EXP Services Inc. is currently looking for a Building Science Engineer in Training to join our Building Science Team in Calgary, Alberta. Do you want to explore the science and engineering behind how our buildings function? How we keep water from leaking into our buildings? How we keep buildings warm and draft free? How we can extend the life and design long-term, durable building enclosures? How with good design and construction, we can minimize our environmental impact? Reporting to the Building Science Manger, this position may be for you.

Your Responsibilities

  • Designing environmental separations including windows, doors, cladding, roofing, waterproofing
  • Conducting field review of construction work in progress
  • Administering construction contracts
  • Conducting reserve fund studies, life cycle studies, building condition assessments
  • Investigation and assessment of failed building envelope components, including presenting findings to technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Testing of building envelope components
  • Conducting energy audits/studies

The Skills and Knowledge You Bring

  • Naturally curious with an insatiable desire to learn
  • Driven to constantly improve yourself and the world around you
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Competent in technical report writing
  • Experience in public speaking
  • Valid driver’s license and your own vehicle
  • 1 to 3 years of practical building science or construction experience
  • Willing and able to work at heights
  • A degree in engineering or architecture
  • Registered or eligible to register as an engineer in training with APEGA

While not required, the following would be considered an asset:

  • Experience in thermography or certification as a thermographer, or
  • Experience with Therm, WUFI, or other thermal and moisture transfer modeling software, or
  • Experience with CAN-QUEST or other energy modeling software, or
  • Certifications or credentials with PMI, CSC, IIBEC, Passive House Canada, CAGBC.
