Job description: The Faculty of Engineering would like to nominate up to 2 individuals internal to the Faculty for a Tier 1 Canada Research Chair.

The Canada Research Chairs (CRCs) were established by the Canadian Government to foster research excellence ( ). Tier 1 Chairs, tenable for seven years and renewable once, are for outstanding researchers acknowledged by their peers as world leaders in their fields. The successful candidate must have a documented, outstanding record of research in an area of Engineering, including leading an internationally-recognized research program that is aligned with the University of Alberta’s Strategic Plan. They must either hold the rank of full professor, or hold the rank of associate professor and expect to be promoted to full professor within one or two years of the nomination date.

Nominees must be professors in the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Alberta. To meet our EDI targets, at least one of these chairs will be designated for a candidate who self-identifies as a woman. Due to current distributions of CRC chairs within the faculty, preference will be given to candidates in Civil and Environmental Engineering, Electrical Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering.
