Job Summary
The Chemist II position in the Research & Technology group is responsible for supporting the R&T activities at Apotex and Apotex Pharmachem. A particular focus is the development of green, safe and cost effective routes to actives using technologies such as continuous flow. This position is also involved in supporting other efforts within the R&T group such as polymorph troubleshooting, form development, nitrosamine-related work, and impurity isolation and characterization using techniques such as preparative LC.
Job Responsibilities
- Researches and develops innovative, safe, commercially competitive, and environmentally sound organic routes to pharmaceutical actives.
- Focus on using, exploring and implementing new technologies such as continuous flow.
- Works collaboratively with other groups as a member of the technology transfer team for the implementation of technologies and processes to manufacturing facilities.
- Use of other techniques in the R&T group such as high throughput screening (HTS), PXRD (D8), IDR (intrinsic dissolution ratio), bulk/tapped density measurements, and preparative LC.
- Isolation and preparation of impurities, including nitrosamines.
- Assist in solid form development and troubleshooting.
- Completes all required reports, SOP’s and documentation associated with assigned projects.
- Remains abreast of literature relating to assigned projects and technologies.
- Follows the principles of cGMP and conforms with all relevant departmental and company SOP’s.
- Mentors R&T associates on assigned projects as directed by the Supervisor or management.
- Meets all deadlines associated with projects.
- Works in a safe manner collaborating as a team member to achieve all outcomes.

Job Requirements
- Education
- Ph.D degree in Chemistry or closely related discipline with a minimum two years of experience in pharmaceutical or fine chemicals industry, or
- M.Sc. Degree in Chemistry or closely related discipline with a minimum six years of relevant experience in pharmaceutical or fine chemicals industry, or
- B.Sc. degree in Chemistry or closely related discipline with a minimum nine years of relevant experience in pharmaceutical or fine chemicals industry.
- Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Proven track record in conducting scientific research.
- The ability to work independently or as a member of a team.
- The willingness to upgrade knowledge/education, as required.
