Job Overview

Job title: Civil Construction Estimator/ Project Manager

Job description: A progressive, established civil construction contractor is seeking a full time Estimator/Project Manager to join our growing company, as a key member of our dynamic management team. Prepare civil cost estimates for various construction projects, or services to aid management in bidding on or determining price of service. Provide leadership and oversight of any secured projects. Although our head office is in Nanaimo, travelling to various job sites within Vancouver Island is required.

Responsibilities & Duties

Consult with clients, vendors, personnel in other departments or construction supervision to discuss and formulate estimates and resolve issues if they arise
Analyze blueprints, construction drawings and other documentation to prepare time, cost, materials, and labor estimates
Prepare estimates for use in selecting vendors or subcontractors
Confer with engineers, designers, owners, contractors and subcontractors on changes and adjustments to cost estimates
Prepare estimates used by management for purposes such as planning, organizing, and scheduling work
Prepare cost and expenditure statements and other necessary documentation at regular intervals for the duration of the project with assistance from account department
Assess cost effectiveness of products, projects or services, tracking actual costs relative to bids as the project develops
Set up cost monitoring and reporting systems and procedures
Conduct special studies to develop and establish standard hour and related cost data or to effect cost reduction
Review material and labor requirements to decide whether it is more cost-effective to construct or sub-contract components
Prepare and maintain a directory of suppliers, contractors and subcontractors
Establish and maintain tendering process, and conduct negotiations

Required Skills

Previous estimating experience preferred
Critical thinking
Strong communication at multiple levels of an organization
Decision making based on both creative and logical thinking
Resource management
Problem solving
Experience with Microsoft Office to assist with bidding and administration of projects
Experience with construction admin and bidding and tendering project
