LaPrairie Works is currently looking to hire a full-time, Civil Maintenance & Construction Project Manager for its extensive Alberta based operations.

Job Summary

The Project Manager will be an effective leader, supported by skills with job scheduling and project KPI performance, quality assurance and control system processes, along with a good understanding of effective procurement strategies for “specified” products, materials, and subcontracted services for a variety of civil highway maintenance and construction projects.

Projects will include; highway/road bridge maintenance & construction, ROW drainage course and slope / embankment stabilization, road base remediation, bridge pile driving, , industrial construction steel erection, mechanical demolition, and other designated civil projects.

The Project Manager will be able to communicate effectively with owner representatives, site superintendent(s) and other project management personnel, designated material suppliers, clients, and the general-public.

Duties & Responsibilities

Include, (not limited to):

  • Project budgeting, oversight, planning, and management
  • Project organization and coordination of manpower, and equipment resources, pre-approved subcontracted services and material suppliers, while monitoring project schedules and performance on-site to ensure end-product specifications and project KPI milestones are achieved, on time and on budget.
  • Ensure ISO-9001-2015 quality assurance and control program protocols and policies are supported and applied.
  • Project ECO plan elements and HSE protocols are planned, communicated, and performed
  • Preliminary project site inspections and assessments
  • Preparation of regular, project progress reports
  • Direct management of trades, labor force, equipment, and subcontractors on-site
  • Effective dissemination of critical project information, while ensuring all information is communicated in a timely manner to all applicable project personnel and stakeholders
  • Implement all environmental, health and safety standards and regulations to maintain a safe and compliant worksite
  • Read and interpret project plans and specifications
  • Attend internal and external project-related meetings as required
  • Ability to travel and dedicate time in the field

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Strong leadership and team building skills
  • Excellent project management, organization, communication, and problem-solving skills
  • Solid background in project management controls to support accurate project progress evaluations, project costing and overall resource scheduling
  • Understanding of RFP / RFQ / RFI contract documents, including contract General Terms and Conditions and Special Provisions (GC & SP)
  • Solid ability in reading and interpreting project plans and specifications
  • Superior interpersonal and communication skills (oral & written)
  • General knowledge of construction equipment operations and productivities would be an asset

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science Civil Engineering (P.Eng) or Certified Engineering Technologist (CET) with related experience in a field operational or field consulting role are considered assets, however solid field construction experience coupled with the requisite support skills and technical knowledge will also be considered
  • 5-10 years of experience working as a senior project superintendent or in a project management role, on highway infrastructure construction and/or maintenance projects
  • Applicable knowledge of highway construction
  • Excellent knowledge and application of construction environmental, health, safety principles and program requirements
  • Ability to undertake a variety of concurrent project challenges, adapt to changing circumstances, and manage multiple project priorities
  • Maintain a valid driver’s license and with a clean driver’s abstract
