What you’ll be doing
- Be available to provide teaching and/or in-services to nurses and other disciplines through various modalities
- Collaborate and take direction from Clinical Education Manager and the National Management Team in assessing and meeting staffs’ educational needs
- Demonstrate a comprehensive repertoire of teaching strategies for one-to-one, group, and lecture situations based on creative approaches
- Work with other members of health team to develop, implement, and evaluate education programs that enhance professional services
- Demonstrate an advanced knowledge based of the DSM-V classification system in relation to consultations and clinical teaching sessions
- Conduct literature reviews and interpret and communicate findings applicable to mental health and addictions, and practice issues
- Present at workshops, symposia, and conferences
- Develop, organize, and implement revisions in services and programs in accordance with organizational needs
- Direct and evaluate staff performance and requirements for effective and efficient clinical care and programming
- Supervise staff including participation in recruitment, hiring, orientation an training
- Direct regular clinical meetings with staff and provide direction and clinical supervision
- Facilitate orientation of new staff
- Create staff and patient/family educational materials
- Develop and maintain unit activity boards
What we’re looking for
- Two year College diploma in nursing
- Registration as an RPN in good standing with College of Nurses of Ontario
- Mental health certification preferred
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in an applicable regulated health profession, with mental health and addictions experience being an asset
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a leadership role
- Ability to effectively manage crisis situations and deal with acutely ill patients with comorbid disorders
- Current knowledge and experience of assessment and treatment of psychiatric disorders, including prevention of suicide and management of aggressive behaviour
- Previous training in boundaries, suicide awareness, physical assessments, and medication administration an asset
- Ability to work independently and as a team
- Knowledge of the Mental Health Act (MHA), CNO Standards, documentation standards (NANDA, SBAR, MSE), Pathophysiology, Pharmacology, and DSM-V
- Proficient with Microsoft Office and LMS
- Excellent coaching, mentoring, and leadership skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills, customer services, and etiquette
- Effective writing and presentation skills
- Experience developing, implementing, and sustaining partnerships
