Job description: Summary:
Under the direction of the Director, Information Technology, the CNIB Apprentice will assist in the research, development and implementation of special projects that support organizational goals. The CNIB Apprentice will work collaboratively with other apprentices across the country to design, research, and develop an employment program for youth with sight loss under the direction of a Program Lead. This position requires a superior level of accuracy, confidentiality, sound judgment, and diplomacy.
Working closely with management, staff, volunteers, as well as clients themselves, the Intern will be afforded the opportunity to develop the necessary skills to work effectively in a not-for-profit setting, as part of an inclusive, empowered culture where every team member feels valued, respected and engaged. Essential Duties entail (but not limited to):
The position entails, but is not limited to the following general responsibilities:
- Research, develop and assist with special projects that support organizational goals.
- Follow up and reach out to program participants to market program evaluation and to share program information.
- Respond to program inquiries.
- Liaise with external stakeholders such as partner employers and mentors.
- Assist in the development of program materials.
- Provide general administrative support including, but is not limited to: filing, drafting and editing correspondence.
- Conducts research on a variety of topics as required.
- Drafts reports and presentations as needed.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
Qualifications: (Education, Training, Experience):
- Proven time management and organization skills; amenable to changing priorities, deadlines and procedures.
- Advanced computer skills, with proficiency in MS Office software including Excel, PowerPoint, Word and Microsoft Office 365.
- Excellent written and oral communications skills.
- Customer service oriented with well-developed interpersonal skills.
- Excellent administrative, time-management and organizational interpersonal skills.
- Professional attitude, results oriented, self-directed and flexible.
- Demonstrates mature and sensitive nature, as well as emotional and social stability when dealing with the needs of persons experiencing sight loss and other functional challenges.
- Must be mature and responsible.
- Must be able to work independently.
- Must be able to travel independently, as needed.
Eligibility
CNIB Apprentices are funded thanks to funding the Government of Canada’s Youth Employment and Skills Strategy. CNIB Apprentices must meet the following eligibility:
- Be blind or partially sighted;
- Be between 15 and 30 years of age (inclusive);
- Be a Canadian citizen, or permanent resident or a protected person as defined by the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act;
- Be legally entitled to work in Canada; and
- Be legally entitled to work according to the relevant provincial/territorial legislation and regulations.
Experience working in an office environment is considered a strong asset.
Experience working with a customer relationship management tool, like Salesforce, is considered an asset.
Work Environment
- This position may work remotely or in an office environment.
- Minimum travel may be required.
