Job description: Reporting to the Associate Director, Employer Relations & Business Development, the Adviser’s role is to promote Sheridan Co-op programs and students to potential industry partners. Developing Co-op postings/opportunities for students is an essential prospecting/sales/marketing function for the Co-op department. Working with a team, the Adviser is responsible for reaching out to identified target markets through which to promote student capabilities and effectively attract new employers to provide meaningful work-term experiences for students. The Adviser is responsible for meeting established job development targets and must obtain adequate numbers of program-related jobs from employers.

What You’ll be Doing

  • Researching the industries in which the students will work and potential industry partners;
  • Obtaining program-relevant jobs from employers via cold-calling and significant business development efforts;
  • Keeping track of students and employers, using dedicated software including postings, placements, conversations, prospects and generating appropriate reports and records;
  • Developing and implementing a comprehensive marketing and communication plan with team members to foster partnership with employers, faculty and students;
  • Assisting in the development of job descriptions using in depth knowledge of program competencies, and student capabilities and advising them on appropriate compensation for students;
  • Establishing appropriate expectations related to students on work-term and assisting in the development of performance measures to support learning outcomes;
  • Troubleshooting work-terms to aid in the assessment and resolution of performance issues;
  • Establishing appropriate expectations related to students on work-term and assisting in the development of performance measures to support learning outcomes;
  • Soliciting feedback from employer on student progress on the job, and assisting with resolution of any performance issues through mediation should conflict arise through phone and on-site visits;
  • Following up with employer where issues of concern are identified on the employer evaluation;
  • Assisting students to identify learning outcomes in their programs in order to build on individual capabilities and confidence, overcome employment barriers, and strategize on how to market themselves to potential employers;
  • Assisting in developing and negotiating entry criteria and maintenance standards for new/existing Co-op programs;
  • Performing other related duties, as assigned.

You are a student/client centered individual with a passion for facilitating student success and enhancing the student experience.

Your exemplary organization and time management and communication skills allow you to facilitate the successful recruitment of Sheridan Co-op/Internship students by employers.

Your have a keen ability to build solid relationships while managing and cultivating existing ones.

Your excellent problem-solving skills, along with your conviction, perseverance, persuasiveness, initiative and creative thinking, allow you to resolve unexpected challenges and explore new communication tools and approaches.

While you are highly collaborative when working in team environments, you also enjoy working independently.

The successful candidate will also meet the following qualifications:

  • 3-year degree in Business, Computer Science, Social Science or a related field;
  • 5 years of experience with job development of paid co-op or employment positions, outside sales (including cold calling) and marketing/promotions (equivalency will be considered);
  • Knowledge of occupations, industries, labour market trends and job search strategies;
  • Expertise using contact management/database systems (asset).

Other Details
Campus Location: Trafalgar (may be assigned activities at any Sheridan campus) once normal campus operations resume. This position is currently working remotely.
