The Nova Scotia Apprenticeship Agency (NSAA) is an industry-led and industry-driven Agency. About Our Opportunity

As the Youth and Equity Education Consultant, you will be responsible for working with youth, equity-seeking community leaders and skilled trades subject matter experts in the development, design and implementation, of apprenticeship training and trade certification activities to support the programs and services of the Nova Scotia Apprenticeship Agency.

You will ensure materials being developed are culturally appropriate, free of cultural bias to the extent possible and provide for the success of those entering and progressing through the skilled trades, as well we those seeking post-journey training and recognition. In addition, you will research and conduct environmental scans and consult with internal and external stakeholders and partners.

You will track emerging trends and changes within occupations, industries and communities to evaluate the need to develop new programs and related standards, such as bridging programs; revise existing programs and related standards; and evaluating appropriate resources to support curriculum and examination development activities.

As Youth and Equity Education Consultant, you are also responsible to oversee the Youth Apprenticeship Program and will supervise the Youth Outreach Coordinator. This will involve working with partners who provide youth programming and the development, maintenance and revision of educational and workplaces standards, curriculum and examinations as it pertains the training needs of youth engaged in the Youth Apprenticeship Program.

As the Youth and Equity Education Consultant you will report to the Director, Partnership and Innovation.

Qualifications and Experience

This may be the right opportunity for you if you have a master’s degree in education (or an equivalent teacher certification) plus eight years related experience. Work experience and specialized knowledge at a highly competent level is essential in labour market development and planning, including labour market information analysis, information development, education and training programs, supports and services, employee development, human resource planning, succession planning, recruitment/attraction and retention and workplace culture.

You possess a high level of independent judgment, initiative, time management and decision-making skills to manage and prioritize work. You have demonstrated curriculum design and development skills. You also have strong research and analytical skills with an ability to synthesize information quickly to develop sound advice on a broad range of challenging issues.

You are well versed in adult learning principles and practices. You apply an innovative and creative approach when developing solutions to problems. You possess exceptional communication skills (written and verbal) with strong interpersonal, presentation and public speaking skills. You have previous experience in testing and evaluation, project management, organization, facilitation and recognition of prior learning.

You are proficient with computer software used for presentations, word processing, spreadsheets, communications, scheduling, organization, databases and audio-visual equipment.

Having and maintaining a valid driver’s License is required.

We will assess the above qualifications and competencies using one or more of the following tools: oral presentations, interview(s), and reference checks.

Pay Grade: PR 20

Salary Range: $3,288.59 – $3,872.05 Bi-Weekly
