The Faculty of Continuing Education and Training (FCET) is a leader in providing flexible learning options for individuals interested in upskilling or reskilling. FCET offers part-time courses towards degrees, graduate certificates, diplomas and certificates, microcredentials, executive education opportunities, customized training for corporations and personal growth and general interest courses.

Reporting to the Vice-President Academic, the Dean, FCET is a dynamic, senior leader who works with an inspirational team of administrators, faculty and support staff to realize the vision of Seneca’s Academic and Strategic Plans. The Dean leads entrepreneurial initiatives that raise Seneca’s profile and uncover new opportunities, while directing student-focused program development and delivery in flexible formats, while providing sound administration for the faculty.

Responsibilities:

Senior Leadership

  • Maps the future direction of FCET, which embraces new opportunities and markets, through the development of a clear, distinct and achievable long-term plan.
  • Actively participates in, and is instrumental in the development, implementation and leadership of, the Faculty Strategic Plan as part of Seneca’s academic planning process.
  • Provides transformational and visionary leadership to ensure FCET programs are differentiated, offer diverse and transferable skills and have the resources and facilities required to include distinctive, flexible learning opportunities.
  • Leads the development of new FCET programs to address labour market needs, as well as emerging opportunities for international, cross-disciplinary and technology-enabled offerings.
  • Contributes to the financial well-being of the faculty and Seneca by providing input to financial planning and budget development.
  • Develops and implements systems (e.g., enrolment, budget), customer service initiatives and new operating procedures into the daily business practices of FCET to ensure that a successful operation is sustained.
  • Oversees the development and implementation of entrepreneurial and applied research initiatives.
  • Leads the development of mutually beneficial relationships with local industry, as well as cultural, community and municipal partners, to develop new programs and establish outstanding opportunities for Seneca students.

Operational management

  • Provides leadership to a large portfolio under the academic division, including administrators, part-time faculty and support staff.
  • Develops and implements an annual business plan that aligns with Seneca’s Strategic and Academic plans.
  • Oversees and is accountable for the faculty’s enrolment plan and budget.
  • Recruits, manages and develops administrative employees and oversees the recruitment and development of faculty and support staff.
  • Participates in Seneca-wide initiatives and develops strong working relationships with other departments and the external postsecondary education community.

Qualifications:

Education

  • minimum completed master’s degree

Experience

  • minimum 12 years of academic leadership experience
  • teaching experience at the postsecondary level preferred
  • extensive experience developing and managing capital and operating budgets and handling a range of Human Resource-related responsibilities
