Job Description:
Reporting to the AVP, Employee Experience Technology the Director, Employee Experience Technology Engineering is an expert and focal point for global enterprise client computing technology platforms including: workstation and mobile hardware, operating systems, software, security and industry trends applicable to Sun Life’s desktop and mobile infrastructure.
This role collaborates with IT teams across the organization to develop and implement strategic and tactical initiatives to provide proactive professional and strategic advice.
With extensive Microsoft stack productivity and collaboration technology experience, the Director, PCT Engineering plays a critical role in defining and validating strategic enterprise architecture for the organization as well as the development of principles, standards, guidelines, tools, processes, and metrics on the proper use and deployment of technology.
Competencies:
- Expert experience in leading enterprise wide engineering and configuration of Desktop and Mobile technologies:
- Hardware platforms
- Operating systems (Microsoft preferred)
- Applications – MS Office Suite, Sharepoint, OneDrive, MS Teams, Active Directory, Azure AD, MS Power Apps Workplace and Workplace Chat.
- Image standardization, deployment and management
- Hands on experience with VMWare, Microsoft Virtualization Products and thin client technologies.
- Conversant with Unified Desktop technologies and strategies.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Operating Framework will be considered an asset.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interact with all levels, including senior management and executives, within and external to the organization.
- Ability to explain complex scenarios with simplicity to aid in understanding for the specific audience. Demonstrates strong organizational awareness, presentation delivery and customer service skills.
- Effective negotiating skills and ability to partner with multiple service owners, stakeholders and external vendors. Encourages open communication across business and functional lines. Able to get at the root of issues and draw out ideas and potential solutions to problems.
- Highly credible leader and demonstrates consistently superior management skills, who attracts and retains superior technology professionals by developing strong, cohesive teams. Operates with a sense of urgency and is best described as energetic, pragmatic, and a true team player
- Expected to respond outside business hours in event of crises impacting business operations or major project implementations
- A minimum of 10 years of technology service management experience, including a minimum of 5 years’ experience in architecting, designing, and deploying infrastructure solutions.
- Exceptional understanding of client computing, mobile and collaboration infrastructure technology coupled with demonstrated recent experience managing service operations in this discipline
- Excellent analytical abilities and innovative problem-solving skills.
Assets:
- University degree/college diploma in related discipline(s) or equivalent work experience, and/or 15+ years in IT industry experience
Accountabilities:
- Accountable for delivering solution design, development, deployment, and transition to operations while maintaining adherence to engineering standards and establishing key performance metrics.
- From the engineering and configuration standpoint, collaborate with PCT Architects on a 3 Year Roadmap and ensure execution against that plan by budgeting and delivering on projects outlined.
- Ensure operational cost containment or reduction by collaborating with PCT Operations team in developing continuous improvement plans.
- Leads a team of technology engineering experts, who specialize in a specific technology domains or combination of domains.
- Collaborates with operations teams on transition and deployment plans throughout design process
- Manage delivery of detailed designs to meet engineering & operational specifications and conform to selected service definition, geographical requirements, architecture, and security standards.
- Provide a facility for on-call support as needed.
- Communicates research and monitoring of business, technology, and competitor trends regarding use of technology.
- Provides Client Computing specific technical guidance and counsel to ensure alignment with industry trends and internal IT strategies.
- Provides platform expertise to IT planning groups in support of strategy development
- Develops and maintains strong working relationships with IT service providers and vendors to influence product direction in support of Sun Life’s strategic direction
- Ensures advice and guidance is aligned with Sun Life’s security and business continuity policies

The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted. It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors. In addition to Base Pay, eligible Sun Life employees participate in various incentive plans, payment under which is discretionary and subject to individual and company performance. Certain sales focused roles have sales incentive plans based on individual or group sales results.
