We are looking to recruit an operations-focused leader in a dynamic supply chain role to own our Last Mile Operations. As the most senior leader of our last mile operations you will oversee a large team of salaried and hourly employees across Canada who plan, coordinate, monitor and support a 24/7 operation to deliver groceries to Goodfood’s Members.
The Director, Last Mile Logistics is responsible for the success of our national distribution operations, on-time monitoring, carrier success, and planning teams. This includes people management, process development and process implementation: all with the objective of exceeding the delivery promise made to each of our Members at industry leading costs.
This position will be based out of Toronto and expect regular domestic travel 10%-15% of the time.
Position – Areas of Responsibility
Lead Goodfood’s scheduled and same-day final mile strategy and operation to ensure cost effective and reliable distribution to all Members that meet and exceed business objectives
Set clear goals and expectations for Senior Managers and Manager by regularly measuring performance, providing feedback, and holding leaders accountable
Work on strategic and continuous improvement projects that drive standardized process-focused operations across the delivery network
Work closely with cross-functional leaders and support staff (Fulfillment, Manufacturing, HR, Finance, Safety, IT, etc) to build processes, secure support, and unlock resources for ongoing operations and new initiatives
Provide strategic level/long-term planning (3, 6, and 12 months out) including labor, asset and operations planning
Own and deliver the operational budget for facilities, labor, and productivity for Canadian distribution operations
Requirements – The Ideal Candidate
Strong academic record from a top-tier college or university with a degree in Engineering, Operations, Supply Chain Management, or other relevant area of study with an MBA or Master’s degree being preferred
Experience in supply chain, operations, or logistics
Experience leading a team of salaried team of employees in an operations capacity
Skills & Capabilities
Drive operational excellence – You possess strong operational intelligence from direct experience in a manufacturing, production, distribution or logistics environment. You work under the assumption that every function and every process can be more efficient and scalable with Lean methodologies
KPI fixated leader and manager – You have experience coaching and keeping colleagues and direct reports accountable to high standards through continuous feedback
Team builder- You have previous success interviewing, hiring, conducting performance management, developing, and terminating employees to build and maintain an all-star team
Comfortable in Excel (or any other tool) – You have a proven ability to navigate spreadsheets and existing tools; new technology excites you!
Nimble and resilient – You have the ability to handle changing priorities and use good judgment in stressful situations
Team builder – You have previous success interviewing, hiring, conducting performance management, developing, and terminating employees to build and maintain an all-star team
You are comfortable working a non-standard schedule when needed to support critical business operations this may include overnight and weekends
