Position Summary
The Director, Surgical, Obstetrical and Pharmacy works under the leadership of the Vice President Clinical and Chief Nursing Executive, and is accountable for the clinical, technical, educational, human resource, financial and other activities associated with the functioning of the Surgical, Obstetrical, and Pharmacy Program. The program includes the Perioperative Suite, Operating Room, Post Anesthetic Room, Ambulatory Care Unit, Surgical/Medical Inpatient Unit, Labour and Delivery Suite, Post-Partum and Women’s Outpatient Clinic, and Pharmacy. The Director is responsible for the achievement of the goals of the programs in keeping with the vision, mission, values and strategic objectives of the Hospital. The Director, in collaboration with the Program Managers, is accountable for patient care and service delivery through continuous quality improvement processes that include planning, quality monitoring, and risk avoidance. To be successful in this role, you will be a strategically focused change leader with advanced planning and organizational skills. You will also possess a collaborative leadership style with exceptional communication skills that will enable you to promote and maintain an interdisciplinary network and relationships with community groups, regional programs, and other external agencies as they relate to the Program, and within the hospital.
You will lead an interdisciplinary team ensuring patient-focused quality care at the Program level, fostering a ‘client-service’ approach to patient care.
Essential Qualifications
- Demonstrated ability to establish team-based approach to decision-making and to move decision-making to the point of service.
- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of process re-design and continuous quality improvement.
- Self-directed, courageous and highly motivated with the ability to influence and achieve outcomes.
- Demonstrated knowledge and ability to lead, coach and motivate others in practice innovation.
- Demonstrated ability to establish trusting and meaningful relationships with internal and external stakeholders is required.
- Excellent interpersonal, organizational and communication (oral & written) skills required.
- Demonstrated ability to prepare, monitor, analyze and evaluate operational and capital budgets.
- Minimum ten (10) years recent relevant management experience in related field required.
- An active registration in good standing in a Professional College (e.g. CNO) and possess a Master’s degree in Health Administration, Business Administration, Health Care Management or a related health science.
