Job Description

We need a Director of Technology to oversee electrochemical advances for future products. You will direct a highly collaborative R&D team focused on synthesis, development and experimental verification of electrochemical technologies, cell stacks, and operating principals while working closely with materials scientists, manufacturing, and product development experts.

As a successful candidate, you understand the importance and role of technology platforms and portfolio management. You understand that technology risk elimination and knowledge creation are key drivers of your team’s actions. You have overseen delivery of world class, commercial fuel cell or flow battery cell stack programs and know the challenges and pitfalls of scale-up from materials science to manufacturable product from first-hand experience. Your experience spans the range from methods selection and interpretation of first principals’ electrochemical studies through to statistical analysis of very large data sets derived from fleet testing. You are both a proven innovator and leader of innovation, experienced in developing your team’s maximum performance potential. In short, you know how to be a great Technology Director because you’ve done it before.

Responsibilities

  • Develop a deep understanding of Invinity’s core technology principal benefits and opportunities for advancement, specializing in the electro-chemical cell stack and flow battery operating principals.
  • Develop programs for big data assessment and performance / reliability development of Invinity core technology performance in the rapidly growing deployed fleet.
  • Create and execute technology development plans and objectives; provide regular development status reports to senior management.
  • Manage, train, and motivate a team of 5 to 10 technical members, including engineers, scientists, and technicians to achieve the objectives.
  • Manage external technology development partners; identify and engage partners when needed. Co-develop and write grant-funding applications where appropriate.
  • Work closely with Invinity’s product development team and external collaboration partners to develop and de-risk core technologies ahead of technology transfer points.
  • Examine, benchmark, and explore emerging competitive technologies.

Qualifications

  • 10 plus years as a Technology Director or Manager with responsibility for directing and managing electrochemical technology R&D.
  • 7 plus years development experience with hydrogen fuel cell or flow battery bipolar cell stack technologies.
  • Proven track-record of electro-chemical technology innovation and delivery in a for-profit technology company.
  • Experience in creating and managing technology development programs, teams, and schedules, including setting clear objectives for development teams.
  • Experience with reliability engineering principals and development of accelerated lifetime testing programs
  • PhD, Master’s, or Bachelor’s degree in Electro-chemistry, Chemical Engineering or related field.

Desirable

  • Prior, deep experience with Vanadium Redox Flow Battery technology
