Job description: Options Community Services is a non-profit registered charity providing social services primarily in Surrey, Delta, White Rock and Langley. Child Care Options Resource and Referral program works with the community to strive for quality inclusive child care services that meet the needs of local families and promotes the healthy development of children. Caregivers can get assistance in finding quality child care for their children while child care providers can increase their ability to provide quality childcare services. Services are provided in Surrey, White Rock and Delta.

This position will closely work with the Early Childhood Resource Library and the Family Resource Program. This position responds to enquiries from families, the child care community and the general public on a wide range of issues regarding early childhood care and education, and refers them to appropriate programs or services. They are actively engaged in the development, implementation and maintenance of the Early Childhood Resource Library and the planning and implementation of the Newton Family Resource Program Drop-in.

Accountabilities

  • Providing front line service to both parents and child care providers.
  • Assisting with development and maintenance of library materials and library inventory management.
  • Assisting with maintenance of library database and public catalogue.
  • Participating in creative library display.
  • Assisting library patrons with research and check-in and check-out of materials.
  • Assisting with the Newton Family Resource Program drop-in and help with the planning and implementation of activities.
  • Assist in the overall functioning of the program by completing tasks assigned by staff / supervisor.
  • Performs other duties, as required.

Qualifications
Education, Training and Experience:

  • Minimum one-year experience with Early Childhood Care or an equivalent combination of education and experience with a minimum of 2 years experience working with children and their families.
  • Experience working with vulnerable families is considered an asset.
  • Valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Demonstrated effectiveness as part of a staff team.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in written, oral and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Knowledge of basic computer applications and a willingness to learn.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop program related reference and resource materials.
  • Commitment to a problem-solving approach.
  • Ability to work independently, set priorities, manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to identify sensitive issues and maintain confidentiality.
  • Must be sensitive to and respectful of cultural and lifestyle diversity.

Working Conditions

  • Travel may be required within Surrey.
  • Standard hours are Monday to Friday 8:00 am – 4:00 pm

Eligibility Requirements

This position is supported by the Canada Summer Jobs (2022) program. This position is contingent on Federal Government Grant funding. Candidates must be aged 15-30 years, and must be either a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred (international students are ineligible) and be legally entitled to work in Canada.

Special requirements

  • Satisfactory Criminal Reference Check / Vulnerable Sector search as per the agency policy.
  • Personnel must sign a Confidentiality Agreement and Code of Ethics.
