The Position
We’re on the hunt for an Engineer – Control Systems – Planetary rover on our Robotics & Space Operations team at our Brampton office.
With 40 years of operational experience and proven performance on the iconic Canadarm programs including Space Shuttle and International Space Station robotics and operations support, our Robotics & Space Operations team has 100% mission success in making space dreams come true.
As our Engineer – Control Systems – Planetary rover, you will work on Lunar and Mars rovers, and/or robotic arms, and/or R&D activities.
Responsibilities:
The daily duties will include: * Developing Rover autonomous guidance, navigation and controls capabilities: sensors data fusion, localisation, terrain modelling and assessment, obstacle detection and avoidance, and path planning and tracking.
- Conducting rover system integration and field trials in analogue terrains.
- Performing design assessment, timeline analysis, mass budget, power/energy budget, communications budget for planetary rover.
- Designing sensor architecture, selecting sensors and deriving performance requirements.
- Performing Multibody dynamics modelling, analysis and simulations, including terramechanics and friction-based contact modelling, and 3D modelling of mechanical systems.
- Provide input to structure and control design based on dynamic simulation.
- Performing simulation runs to validate mathematical models, new parameters, and control algorithms.
- Performing simulation runs to analyse loads failures and recovery scenarios.
- Performing mission operations analysis using state-of-the-art simulation tools, computer vision algorithms, and AI technologies.
- Presenting analysis results to Technical Leads, Program management, Canadian Space Agency, ESA and NASA.
- Contributing to technology development (R&D activities) and to the Front End of the Business.
Requirements:
Interested candidates must possess a Master’s degree in Aerospace, Mechanical, Electrical, or Computer Science, or System Engineering or Physics/Applied Mathematics. Candidate should have 7 years of hands on experience in integrated system design for rovers, integrated vision systems and Autonomous execution design. An experience on Robot Operating System (ROS) and algorithm implementation is necessary. An experience on control and dynamic modelling of multi-DOF manipulators is an asset. The candidate must have demonstrated the ability to work in a team environment.
