Job Details:
We are currently seeking an Engineering Design Manager for our Ontario offices. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
Responsibilities:
- Plans, organizes, schedules and directs all of the engineering activities of a major project, reviews, monitors and controls engineering design, schedules, manpower budgets, expenditures and progress on projects.
- Participates in studies, project definition and technical bid preparation.
- Represents the company in client relationships, co-ordinates activities with other departments, exercises management responsibility with respect to selection, appraisal and training of staff.
- On smaller projects may have overall responsibility for construction, procurement, cost, and scheduling.
- Responsible for administrative functions including advising on program or project proposals and long-range plans, developing programs and establishing objectives and priorities.
- Determines project objectives, allocates staff and resources, approves payment on contract work and determines acceptability of advice from consultants or others.
- Maintains current knowledge of departmental management practices, directives, programs, standards and administrative procedures.
- Determines the need for investigation and research, and participates in the development of long-range plans and establishment of project objectives and priorities.
- Provides expert advice on designs, processes or other engineering methods.
- Establishes contacts with colleagues and officials in other departments, regions, in industry, with current and potential clients and with government agencies as required.
- Makes responsible decisions on all matters under area of responsibility including the establishment of policies, the administration of departmental and project budgets and staff planning.
- Is required to show resourcefulness and ingenuity in implementing policies in situations where considerable variation in interpretation is possible.
- Operates with broad management authority receiving little technical guidance and administrative direction unless involving significant potential liability, large sums of money or long range objectives. Control is exercised only in terms of assessing attainment of objectives critical to the organization’s success and policies.
- Provides team or technical and administrative direction to subordinate staff.
- Reviews ongoing performance results and identifies needs of employees.
- Implements coaching or mentoring partnerships as appropriate.
- Maintains a favorable working relationship with all employees to promote a cooperative and harmonious working environment in order to facilitate positive employee morale, productivity, and continued improvement.
- Communicates clearly and directly with employees concerning performance expectations, productivity, and accountability.
- Identifies, evaluates, recruits, orients and mentors new key staff.
Requirements:
- University degree in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical or Civil/Structural).
- 12+ years of working experience in Engineering.
- Registered as a Professional Engineer in the Province of Ontario (P.Eng).
- Broad and extensive engineering and administrative experience.
- You will have exceptional communication skills (client relations, team project communications, and proposal and report development).
