Aecon is currently seeking an Engineering Designer to join Aecon Construction and Materials Limited (ACML) at our Toronto head office. Under the supervision of the Senior Engineer, the Engineering Designer will provide temporary works design for project staff, ensure accurate take-offs for the estimating group and support in the training of co-op students about engineering and engineering principles.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide safe, cost effective and accurate engineering designs for all temporary works to project staff.
  • Provide practical and protective environmental mitigation designs using AutoCAD and hand calculations and/or design software.
  • Provide accurate and timely submissions of take-off to the estimating team to ensure success on bids.
  • Train co-op students and project coordinators for engineering design.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
  • Travel will be required for sites across Ontario.
  • Work in a variety of jobsite conditions (tunnels, quarries, mines, trenches/excavations, culverts, bridges, among others).

Required Knowledge and Experience

  • Post-secondary education in the Civil Engineering field.
  • 1 – 2 years of working experience in similar roles is preferred.
  • Strong AutoCAD skills are required.
  • Strong computer skills, using Microsoft based software (Word, Excel, etc.) are required.
  • Experience in heavy civil construction is preferred.
  • Formwork / Falsework design experience is as asset.
  • Knowledge of design software is an asset.
  • Knowledge of OPSS and CSA Standard is an asset.
  • Valid G driver license and access to reliable transportation.
