Position: Engineering Technician, DomeNet, Bell Media, Non-mgmt
Location: Dome Productions – Toronto (Rogers Centre)
Salary: Commensurate with qualifications and experience
Hours of Work: Temporary-Full Time (9 months)
Location: Rogers Centre, Toronto ON
Responsibilities:
- Maintain performance and full service functionality for the managed network systems that are deployed under Dome’s service, provisioned for transport of video, audio and data
- Attend and address facilities expansion, corrective service actions and equipment specific configuration administration that ensure best performance for delivery of services
- Complete daily performance monitoring and review of network traffic, system performance and communicate status updates
- Maintain performance and full-service functionality to the Master Control Facilities that are under Dome’s management
- Liaise with manufacturer support, operators, and telco suppliers to resolve identified issues that are impacting complete operational status of network services in a timely fashion
- Work directly with Network Operators to correct issues and ensure network is operation at full capacity
- Provide technical support for video/audio based encoding and decoding capabilities along with supporting the services and equipment used to provision web streaming
- Support remote satellite teleport facility, ensuring satellite antennas are operational for full time and occasional use services
- Act as Studio engineer. Assist operators with the efficient and effective equipment operations as required
- Develop strong rapport and two-way communication skills with clients, operators to ensure effective problem solving, and insights into equipment ‘issues’ during live productions
- Provide feedback to clients and internal teams in determining the appropriate technological production solution to fit their event needs
- Maintain and repair all technical equipment in the Studio and equipment room facilities.
- Maintain current knowledge of inner workings of equipment/systems, the connect points and interdependencies of all positions
- Recommends solutions based on the balance between operational efficiency and equipment malfunctions
Qualifications:
- Recognized post-secondary degree/diploma in Broadcast or Electronics Technology, or equivalent experience in Broadcast industry
- Minimum of 5 years relative broadcast/media network management experience
- Thorough knowledge of computer systems, networking topology and deployment, VPN tunnels, and network security
- Thorough knowledge of compression standards MPEG-2, MPEG-4, HEVC, JPEG-2000 encoder/decoder operation, and transport stream analysis
- Familiarity with satellite uplink/downlink chain infrastructure, as well as DVB-S/S2/S2X, ASI and IP transport streams
- Understanding of basic principles of IP technologies including: Ethernet functions and standards, Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)
- Excellent knowledge of Networking Fundamentals, including LAN/WAN, VPN, Routing, Firewall and remote communication
- Understanding of media file formats, metadata, streaming, archive technology and applications used in the media production environment
- Understanding of SRT and SRT Capabilities
- Experience in wiring technical appliances into racks and cases including termination / testing of video and network cables
- Proficient with MS Windows, Mac and Linux OS; Proficient with MS Visio
- Understanding of sports and entertainment productions, control room & Master Control facilities
- Thorough knowledge of Evertz Magnum Transport systems and related infrastructure is an asset
- Thorough knowledge of Imagine Communications Versio, Nexio, ADC Automation and Motion master control systems is an asset
- Thorough knowledge of Cisco Meraki, WiFi Network and CISCO Ethernet networks is an asset
- Knowledge of AutoCAD software is an asset
- Knowledge of Dejero and Haivision Ecosystems is an asset
Requirements:
- Previous experience working in a broadcast environment
- Role may have some travel throughout North America
- Must hold a valid Canadian G-Class driver’s license
- Must be able to physically attend the Rogers Centre or Oakville plant location
- Required to work weekdays, evenings and/or weekends as assigned
- Required to participate in after-hours on call rotation
- Ability to work in a dynamic and changing environment and deal with emergencies as they arise
Bilingualism is an asset (English and French); adequate knowledge of French is required for positions in Quebec.
