Job Summary

The role of Expert Solution Design is responsible for producing technology solutions aligned with business objectives within a specific field of expertise and associated set of technology capabilities. This is achieved through three main functions:

  • Consultation – participating in workshops with various stakeholders, understanding user & business requirements, researching data, and technological capabilities
  • Ownership – translating information from workshops into a Technology Blueprint or software design
  • Planning – Work with the Project Manager in creating work breakdown structures, delivery timeline and effort estimates

Main Responsibilities

Technology Blueprint & Design

  • Support the Enterprise & Solution Architect during their requirements phase as well as providing expertise on current capabilities to build the high-level architecture
  • Translate a portion of the high-level solution architecture document into existing capabilities available within the domain(s) of expertise
  • If needed, define new capabilities required by the project as identified by architecture; ensure maximum automation in the design for deployment. Instruct and host workshops to determine sizing.
  • Lead medium/high complexity blueprints and/or participate in high complexity blueprints
  • Responsible for ensuring the blueprint, which covers domain(s) of expertise, complies with CN Information Security • Participation in product and vendor selections (RFP/RFI/RFQ)

Project Delivery Planning

  • Estimate efforts of work breakdown structure elements associated with domain(s) of expertise
  • Ensure alignment of the schedule with the functional team in line with domain(s) of expertise
  • Define testing strategy and align with the functional team in with domain(s) of expertise
  • Identify any special requirements for transition-to-core Information & Technology

Project Delivery Oversight

  • Oversee solution delivery to ensure alignment with blueprint and adjust blueprint as required
  • Work with Project Manager to adjust deliverables and timelines as required.
  • Provide technical leadership and coordination between various delivery teams.
  • Provide technical assistance and direction to delivery teams.

Technology Roadmap

  • Research market for innovation and emerging technologies aligned with business strategy and direction
  • Assist Product Managers in maintaining catalog of existing capabilities within domain(s) of expertise and provide advisory services to various technology owners
  • Research ways to improve and automate deployment of existing and new capabilities
  • Provide leadership in the roadmap within the domain(s) of expertise; making recommendations to ensure components relevant; otherwise trigger introduction of new technology as well as containment or retirement

Requirements

Education/Certification/Designation

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering or equivalent degree & experience

Skills/Knowledge

  • Strong knowledge on Apigee EDGE API management platform.
  • Strong knowledge on Cloud Native API’s.
  • Good understanding of PaaS, SaaS, Cloud technologies and platforms.
  • Knowledge on ELK, ADX and DevOps is an Asset.
  • Strong knowledge in at least 2-3 technical domains (specialties)
  • Broad knowledge of technical domains: Public/Private cloud, Infrastructure as Code, Telecom, Infrastructure, or Industrial IoT technologies Familiar with Agile and Waterfall project methodologies
  • Ability to translate business requirements into technology solutions
  • Ability to estimate efforts and costs required for delivery
  • Ability to work on multiple projects in parallel and meet deliverable dates
  • Very good technical documentation skills
  • Very good communication and presentation skills
  • Proactive, able to plan, address or mitigate technical risk
  • Proven experience delivering technology projects involving multiple parties
  • Knowledge of IT security principles
  • Ability to clarify requirements and ensure solution meets business needs
  • Strong systems engineering or development knowledge
  • Strong sense of prioritization for meeting deadlines
  • Ability to navigate within a complex I&T organization
  • Ability to lead in ambiguous situations

Experience

  • 5 to 10 years’ relevant work experience
  • Minimum 7 years’ experience in a software development.
  • Minimum 5 years’ relevant technical experience (specialty) in complex detailed design and solution integration.
  • Experience designing, configuring and deploying Integrations.
  • Proven experience delivering technology projects involving multiple parties.
  • Minimum 7 years’ experience in design and build of “Integration” solutions including message flows, transformation, routing and error handling using – IIB, Mulesoft, Apigee, Kinvey and Datapower.
  • Minimum 7 years’ experience in designing DFDL/XSD schemas, SOAP/REST API
  • Minimum 7 years’ experience with communication protocols (HTTP/REST, SOAP, JMS, MQ, SAP). Must understand the use of each protocol.
  • Experience in OAuth 2.0, SAML and SSO.
  • Minimum 7 years’ experience in SOA design, Event Messaging and integration patterns
  • Experience in integration testing and performance testing/tuning of “Integration” solutions, preferably using IIB, Mulesoft, Apigee, Kinvey, Datapower, Kafka and MQ.

Working Conditions

Occasional business travel (in Canada and US) in accordance with CN policy
