Job title: Geographic Information System Student

Working within a highly motivated and fast-paced Geographic Information System (GIS) team you will have the opportunity to apply your education on a diversity of projects. While reporting to the Manager of Upstream GIS, the scope and variety of the projects will be focused primarily on our operations in the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo. You will gain a strong appreciation of how GIS supports the operations and decision-making processes in the Upstream Business Unit of Suncor Energy.
You will use your expertise to:
- Support the Upstream GIS team by fulfilling day-to-day requests
- Participate in generation and spatial analysis where appropriate
- Manage, load and translate data
- Collaborate with the GIS team and provide support on a number of diverse projects
- Develop familiarity of project area and interval(s) interest through searches of existing reports

Must-haves (minimum requirements):
- Current enrollment in a formal co-op or internship program in 2nd year undergraduate program in Earth and Science (or related field) or one year of technical diploma that is focused on Geographic Information System at an accredited post-secondary institution, and returning to full-time studies after the work term (attach your transcripts with your application)
- Experience with ArcGIS software
- Understanding of Geographic Information System (GIS) theory
- Knowledge of projections and how they influence data cartography and data entry
- The ability to take direction and work within a collaborative team environment
- Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills
- The ability and desire to increase technical knowledge
- Alignment with our

Preference for:
- An appreciation of the Oil and Gas industry and understanding of Oil Sands process is a benefit
- Experience with Feature Manipulation Engine (FME) software
- An appreciation of Geographic Information System (GIS) data sources
Where you’ll be working, your work schedule, and other important information:
- You will work out of our Calgary head office, located in the Suncor Energy Centre at 150 – 6th Ave S.W.
- Hours of work are a regular 40-hour work week, Monday to Friday
- This is an 8-month work term, starting in September 2021
