Position Summary:

Research assistant(s) to help with high-level Canadian policy discourses on wellbeing-led policy.

There is great momentum within governments across Canada (and a few other countries) to re-think the implicit and explicit objectives behind policy, and to build new frameworks for the measurement of progress, evaluation of policy, and guidance of new policy.

The newly-launched Canadian Wellbeing Knowledge Network, headquartered at McGill, is leading an effort to bring practitioners and policy makers from different disciplines together to ensure a common understanding and language of the science of wellbeing.

We are looking for one or two graduate students with exceptional synthesis, analytic, and communication skills to help with several tasks in preparation for a series of discourse dialogues later this year.

The positions will begin Mar 14, 2022 and end December 1, 2022. The hourly rate is $20/hour and the regular workweek will be 12 hours per week.

Possible tasks include:

  • synthesize findings of a Canada-wide scan, currently underway, of policy efforts framed around wellbeing
  • working with our partners, research and write short background documents for each of three dialogue groups
  • help to synthesize outcomes from the series of dialogues
  • Other research-related duties may be assigned.

Desired profile

  • Must be a current Master’s or PhD student registered at McGill University
  • Background knowledge related to economics, public health, and/or Indigenous studies
  • Excellent writing skills
  • Independent worker, strong communicator, critical thinker
  • Available for approx. 12 hours / week for March, April, and May. Having some further availability through November 2022 would be an advantage.

Please upload as a SINGLE pdf, your CV, transcripts, one or two writing samples (e.g. papers written for a course), and cover letter explaining your suitability for and interest in the job.
