Job Description

Strategic Communications is responsible for developing and leading integrated communications strategies that support organizational priorities while stewarding the brand and reputation. This includes the management of all the digital platforms – website, intranet and social – supporting our hospital and research and clinical programs. Often the first experience people have with Women’s College, our digital platforms are critical in supporting the reputation of the organization and connecting patients and stakeholders with vital information.

Part of a dynamic team, this role is responsible for:

Website Content and Development

  • Works with members of the Strategic Communication team and content owners across Women’s College to coordinate and publish content while maintaining continuity of design and navigation.
  • Coordinates incoming requests for changes, prioritizes needs and develops publishing schedules.
  • Provides recommendations on improving the user experience while ensuring content is published according to web best practices and standards.
  • Ensures compliance with information management standards including brand guidelines, metadata standards, brand guidelines, security, privacy and AODA guidelines.
  • Assisting with web projects and the planning and implementation of new page/section builds
  • Designs and develops assets for websites and digital platforms.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to ensure digital components of communication plans are delivered on time.
  • Support crisis and issues response as needed
  • Work collaboratively across with all team members to ensure integrated communications approaches.

Graphic Design

  • Provides advice and works with clients on the design of collateral and assets for a variety of platforms, particularly on digital platforms.
  • Ensures alignment with official brand guidelines as well as AODA standards.
  • Recommends and designs templates for print and digital collateral, including signage, patient materials, campaigns, special events, etc.
  • Uses the Adobe Suite of products for design and layout, and edit photos as needed
  • Follows design trends and best practices in the production of print and digital materials
  • Reviews final productions for errors, ensuring final prints reflect client specifications and desired outcomes.
  • Provides general copywriting as needed.

Project Coordination

  • Uses and understands creative briefs to guide the production of materials.
  • Develops workback schedules for digital and print projects.
  • Tracks and reports on digital metrics and results as needed.

Qualifications

  • Diploma in Web design/graphic design/new media
  • 2-3 years experience in digital and graphic design
  • Proficiency with computer software programs including Adobe Creative Cloud, HTML, CSS and content management systems (e.g. MODX CMS, WordPress, and Clarity CMS)
  • Experience with mobile, JavaScript, JQuery HTML and responsive design and development.
  • Experience with UX and UI design, usability principles, cross-browser compatibility issues
  • Proficiency working with both PC and Mac operating systems
  • Excellent ability to communicate complex ideas effectively through design
  • Detail-oriented with strong analytical, planning and project-management ability
  • Must have the ability to perform under pressure and within deadlines
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and also as part of a team
  • Experience in non-profit, public sector or healthcare an asset
  • Ability to manage multiple and often competing priorities and work under tight deadlines with a positive attitude
  • A responsible self-starter who is diplomatic, outgoing, and has a strong work ethic and ability to provide outstanding customer service
