What is the opportunity?
We are looking for a technically strong and business-minded individual to lead technical delivery and operations for Dr Bill. In this role, you will coach, mentor and lead a diverse software development team. You will collaborate with business and product leadership in order to ensure we deliver and operate a high-quality, high-performance product.
Reporting to the CTO of Dr. Bill, this position will manage all facets of software engineering within our product development function. You will manage managers and senior technical staff members as well as drive process improvements and team growth.
What you will do?
- Provide management, support and coaching to direct reports including working with business and product teams
- Work closely with peers and provide mentorship for those new to the practice
- Be a sounding board and consultant for the technical decisions the application development team makes in building and enhancing our software products
- Support the decision-making process with business and product teams by taking into consideration product roadmap, target metrics, budget constraints, etc
- Ensure the roadmap for the platform is aligned to support business goals and timelines
- Motivate the engineering team and provide technical direction and guidance
- Continuously evaluate and optimize the overall engineering efficiencies, quality and reliability of deliverables
- Identify opportunities for technical and people management training for the team to help them evolve their skills
- Ensure operational best practices including effective IT controls, insights and logging, application performance monitoring, application health monitoring and effectively supporting issues in the production environment
What do you need to succeed?
Must Have
In this role, you’ll report directly to the CEO, and will also collaborate closely with RBC Ventures HR and Employee Experience leadership.
- 10+ years of overall work experience with at least 5 years’ in software leadership
- A willingness to get “in the weeds” when necessary, to drive initiatives to completion
- Proven analytical, quantitative and problem solving skills
- Strong time management capabilities, with the ability to perform multiple tasks and objectives in short periods of time
- A low ego and team first approach: running towards problems and helping teammates succeed
- Strong communications (written and oral) and interpersonal skills; a proven and willing collaborator
- Comfort with ambiguity
- Results oriented, flexible and willing to work in a multi-task and dynamic work environment
- Strong sense of initiative and accountability and a self-starter who can work equally well in groups and on their own
- Excellent knowledge and industry experience (8+ years) with modern software development practices ideally in a SaaS context
- Experience leading and managing software engineers in an Agile development environment (Scrum or Kanban)
- Understanding of servant leadership and an appreciation of EQ and empathy in people management
- Excellent understanding of DevOps principles and CI/CD
- Experience with AWS cloud infrastructure
- Extensive experience with n-tier cloud-based application architecture
- Extensive experience (5+ years) in people management of varying levels of seniority
- Experience in translating business strategy into resourcing plans to meet timeline and budgetary requirements
- Experience with operating and supporting public-facing web and mobile applications
- Experience planning and building budgets
