Executive Summary

The Head of Engineering & Technology Enablement is a highly critical role in advancings ATB’s “Edge” strategy and is central to generating a return on ATB’s edge investment.

To be successful as our Head of Software Development & Technology Enablement, you must have prior organizational leadership experience in a high growth technology company, be comfortable operating in a fast-moving, agile environment, and be able to orchestrate and manage multiple stakeholders inside and outside the organization.

The Head of Software Development & Technology Enablement must demonstrate excellent communication skills, be a systems thinker and have a solid foundation in software engineering principles. Finding an experienced Leader who can support the cadence of rapid innovation and growth of our team and portfolio is key to this role’s success.

About the role | What we are looking for:

Reporting to the SVP of Ventures, the Head of Software Development & Technology Enablement is a critical member of Venture’s Senior Leadership team. As the Senior most technology Leader on the team, you will also represent Venture’s to internal stakeholders (C-Suite & Board), external stakeholders and customer prospects.

Beyond strategy setting, the biggest part of your role is to be a Leader and enable the highest performance of the technology delivery functions. Summary of key responsibilities | As the Head of Software Development, you will be responsible for:

Strategy Development & Execution

  • Strategy: Work in an interdisciplinary manner with your peers in Product, Technology and Operations, to define and implement the overall engineering and tech enablement vision and strategy for ATB Ventures
  • Operating Plan: translate strategy and vision into a fit-for-purpose organizational design, operating plan and roadmap, with clear outcomes and key measures defined
  • Budget: Build and manage the budget for the engineering & technology enablement department. This includes: headcount, consulting spend, equipment cost, infrastructure costs (eg. Cloud), patent costs, and more

Leadership:

  • Funding Raising – support Senior Leadership with its capital raising activities. Prepare and present investment pitches to ATB Executives, ATB Board Members and Venture Capitalists
  • Team & Talent Management- attract, retain and grow the best engineering and technology talent through recruitment, mentorship and coaching
  • Communicate, orchestrate and motivate-inspire your team with your in-depth knowledge of technology. Keep everyone moving in the same direction, and on track
  • Culture -work closely with senior leadership to build a high performance, innovative culture
  • Processes – evolve and mature current engineering and technology enablement practices with the aim of improving quality, stability, and on-time, agile delivery
  • Metrics & Reporting -regularly report on team’s progress, pipeline, and key performance metrics (OKRs)
  • Technical leadership – work closely with the Head of Technology to develop and maintain a technical roadmap that will allow the engineering team to continuously innovate from a technical standpoint.
  • Stakeholder management – manage and nurture key stakeholders across ATB, our partners, and customers

Program Management and Execution:

  • Ensure that the product vision is realized through excellence in execution.
  • Own and be accountable for the engineering and IT aspects of product delivery
  • Articulate strategic direction to the Managing Director(s) of Engineering & Technology Enablement in order to facilitate day-to-day execution of goals
  • Deliver velocity and value through program management and engineering execution to ensure that the product and technology vision is realized through excellence in execution
  • Establish a high-quality bar for deliverables – develop standards and procedures to ensure that quality standards are met and on-time
  • Prioritization – communicate project requirements and product expectations clearly and in detail.
  • Decision-making – make high-quality decisions quickly and with confidence
  • A hands-on attitude – sometimes a problem is “all hands on deck”. The Head of Engineering and Tech Enablement must be able to jump in and do some troubleshooting to get the project out and on time.
  • Impact product strategy and architecture – engage in the product architecture and roadmap process by collaborating with both the Head of Technology and Product Management functions

Maintain Safe, Secure, Reliable Operations – Venture’s Systems and Infrastructure

  • Work with ATB Enterprise (where dependencies exist) to inform & help optimize the technologies that underpin Venture’s operations (IT Services, Security, Risk & Compliance)
  • Enabling Technologies & Infrastructure: drive “core” technology investments that underpin Venture’s business model ( e.g. GCP, tech tool chains, customer support technology) and make sure that budgets and systems are managed safely, securely and reliably
  • Manage technology vendors and partners. Work with Venture software vendors and partners to ensure that service levels are maintained and any new features are delivered safely.

Requirements:

Helpful skills & experience | What we’re looking for in the ideal candidate…

  • 15+ years of experience in software development and technology roles
  • 10+ years leading a software engineering team, ideally experienced in scaling teams at startups and being a leader of “leaders”
  • Proven leadership skills (leading a team of

30) with a record of mentoring and upskilling technology talent * Exceptional problem solver – capable of identifying problems before they occur and helping teams solve them quickly and decisively

  • Prior-success in working in hyper-growth environments and scaling engineering operations
  • Have an in depth knowledge of programming languages and software architecture
  • Deep understanding of Agile development practices
  • Experience building / working on SaaS products
  • Eager to learn and grow
  • Exceptional communication and collaboration skills
  • Experience with distributed and remote work environments
