The Equipment Trainer position will facilitate and audit compliance with OHS regulations regarding full verification of employee competency, namely, adequately qualified, suitably trained and with sufficient experience to safely perform work without supervision or with only a minimal degree of supervision prior to the start of the type of work. Actively train and evaluate active employees and facilitate the training of site supervisors in employee competency, ongoing evaluations, and training. The equipment trainer will assist in the staffing of site through gained knowledge of competencies and on-site tryout evaluations to strive for staffing sites with the highest levels of skilled workers on our fleet of heavy equipment.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Facilitate Employee field portion of competency and evaluation process
  • Audit field competency and evaluation process to ensure compliance with OHS regulations
  • Evaluate and train workers to establish competency and level of proficiency around different types of equipment and tasks
  • Engage workers through periodic evaluations and training to increase skill level and knowledge to provide a career path
  • Support field management staff in the obligations regarding competency evaluation, consistent evaluation of workers and training
  • Form part of the committee that evaluates and develops or improves existing competency, evaluation, or training processes.
  • Provide Input in the staffing of site by providing knowledge of employee capabilities, employee evaluation and tryout prior to start
  • Assist in the development of policies, procedures, and safe work practices for Equipment and Labour operations
  • Past heavy equipment operation experience to safely operate all equipment (excavator, dozer, grader, articulating rock truck, rigid frame truck, packer, heavy haul trucks, water trucks and fuel and lube) with proficiency and knowledge of heavy civil earthmoving operations to understand the role and safe operation of each piece of heavy equipment
  • Understanding of safety operations regarding company and employee responsibilities and understanding of OHS regulations
  • Advanced level of Microsoft Office products with specific strengths in Word and Excel
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to establish connections and understand the needs of all levels of employees
  • Establishes trust, rapport, and relationships easily
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills
  • Strong background in GPS machine control

Requirements

  • 7-10 years of heavy equipment operation
  • Minimum 5 years mining experience
  • Valid Class 1 or Class 3 Drivers License required with clean commercial abstract
  • Must have or be willing to obtain, CSTS with CSO or equivalent, Ground Disturbance Level 2, H2S Alive, Standard First Aid, Wildlife Intermediate (in class)
