Information Systems Technician

Location: Regina, SK
Position Type: Temporary (6 months)
Number of Positions: 4
Salary: $27.24/hr – $39.12/hr (will be determined based on education and experience)
Close Date: June 25, 2021

POSITION OVERVIEW
Implements, maintains and administers SaskTel Data Centers and servers to provide high quality service to internal and external clients in a continuously operating environment. Provide Tier II support for Network Operating Systems (NOS), software and hardware. Analyses and recommends solutions or enhancements to current or new processes and systems. Performs related duties.

TYPICAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
(Not all inclusive or applicable to all assignments)

  • Installs, configures, coordinates and administers SaskTel’s server environment including file server hardware, NOS, and work station application software. Ensures that system and environmental housekeeping procedures and system backups are performed to the prescribed standard.
  • Responsible for support of electronic messaging environments. (E.g. Lotus Notes).
  • Performs Control Office functions and responsibilities for the implementation and resolution of hardware and software troubles ensuring Service Level Agreements, Defined Problems Management and Change Management Control procedures are upheld. Consults with Tier III resources and vendors for timely resolution of hardware and software problems as required.
  • Performs continuous monitoring and testing on related systems and elements to ensure security, reliability and

integrity of computer environments. * Identifies security vulnerabilities, analyses errors in system configurations and applies recommended resolutions. Conducts selected tests of information security measures.

  • Ensures clients awareness of SaskTel’s policies and procedures related to the environment.
  • Creates and analyses documents and procedures as required. Ensures maintenance of system documentation

and directories for new or existing products. * Compiles reports, which include current usage, trends and forecasts. Assembles and analyzes data and

provides metrics and statistics for the managed environment. * Assists in related business/project plan development and evaluation of hardware/software products.

  • Works with internal and external customers as required for trouble resolution or clarification of change requests.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Degree in Computer Science OR Diploma in Electronic/Computer Engineering Technology as recognized by Canadian Council of Technicians and Technologists (C.C.T.T.) or Diploma in Computer Systems Technology or Diploma in Business Information Systems recognized by Canadian Information Processing Society (CIPS) and 1 year of experience

supporting server technologies OR Certificate in Computer System Support as recognized by C.C.T.T. and 2 years of experience supporting server technologies OR one of the following with 5 years of experience supporting server technologies: a) Algebra 30 b) Foundations of Mathematics 30 c) Pre-calculus 30 * Working knowledge of one of the following server operating systems: UNIX, Windows, Linux, Solaris.

  • Working knowledge of Networking systems and protocols.
  • Demonstrated analytical ability and proven problem solving skills.
  • Ability to plan and organize in a self directed environment.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written and the ability to deal effectively with others.
  • Valid driver license.
