We are looking for an enthusiastic Information Technician to join our Creativity Commons Branch..

Under the direction and support of the Library Manager, the Information Technician is provides reader’s advisory and reference services to customers of all ages by working directly with the public in the assigned work location and providing back-up reader’s advisory and reference services. The Information Technician also assists the Library Manager to maintain the branch collection, prepare displays and train public and staff in use of eResources and is a participating member of the branch team. This includes but is not limited to: * Works on the Information Desk on a regularly scheduled basis, providing reader’s advisory and reference services to customers of all ages.

  • Under the direction of the Library Manager, adjusts and weeds the branch collection.
  • Prepares displays on specific topics.
  • Assists and instructs customers on the use of library resources, including eResources and self-service technology.
  • Assists the Library Manager to train the branch staff in the areas of reader’s advisory, reference and eResources.
  • Assists in preparing and presenting branch programing.
  • Is able to carry out all representative duties as noted on the Library Assistant job description.
  • Other related duties as required.

You have the following knowledge, skills and abilities: * Two year Library Technician Diploma.

  • Demonstrated reader’s advisory, reference and eResource skills. (May be demonstrated for new graduate by high standing in appropriate course work.)
  • Strong computer skills, including Internet.
  • Effective trouble shooting skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability and willingness to work with the public – all ages.

You should also know:

You are required to have a valid BC Driver’s License and a reliable vehicle given that there will be travel to various VIRL Branches or potential VIRL Branch locations. You are required to have a satisfactory complete a Criminal Record Check (Working with Children & Vulnerable Adults).

This is a CUPE unionized position Casual-on-Call with a rate of pay of $27.31 as provided in the Collective Agreement. Please visit our job board for additional details: .
