We have an exciting opportunity for an Instructor – Information Technology Systems

The Instructor applies skill in teaching and learning to facilitate inclusive student engagement and educational approaches for learners as they develop networking, software development and computer programing skills. The Instructor guides the development of curriculum, courses, and methodologies to address the learning requirements within the Information Technology Systems program. The Instructor works collaboratively with faculty and internal stakeholders to facilitate inclusive learning opportunities for learners of varying skill-levels and experience; delivers and develops Information Technology Systems and related curriculum as assigned; supports internal research into continuous instructional improvement; and liaises with external stakeholders to support placement and partnership opportunities in industry.

Provides program and curriculum support – 65%

  • Instructs courses as assigned.
  • Develops and reviews course/curriculum with faculty support.
  • Provides expertise in Information Technology Systems program related initiatives.
  • Keeps current regarding changes in industry and supports curriculum redesign as required.
  • Keeps current with industry certifications and applicable academic initiatives with vendor partners.
  • Participates in recruitment events.
  • Maintains current understand of industry trends and innovation including best practices.

Provides a positive learning experience for Students – 15%

  • Collaborate with faculty to ensure best practices in instructional delivery.
  • Supports innovation in course development and instructional design with a focus on competency-based education.
  • Identifies areas of concerns and refer to the Program Chair for follow up if necessary
  • Provides learner support outside of the classroom, including but not limited to, tutorials and bootcamps.
  • Supports the program in awarding scholarships and bursaries.
  • Participates in college and departmental events that promote student success (for example, but not limited to: orientation, open house, graduation).

Builds and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders and promote the department and the College – 10%

  • Assists with articulation and transfer activity as required.
  • Engages industry and community stakeholders.
  • Attends external industry networking events.
  • Develops community partnerships in industry for placement and internship support.

Other duties/special projects – 10%

  • Completes any professional development requirements (for example, but not limited to: D2L; Agresso Student Module Training, Instruction Skills Training, FOIP).
  • Provides input into Continuing Learning initiatives at BVC.
  • Ability and willingness to participate in applied research.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science/Software Development/Computer Programming or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • 3 years’ instructional experience at the post-secondary/adult education/corporate training level.
  • At least 5 years practical experience related to the field of study.
  • Demonstrated Knowledge and practical experience in:
  • Network routing, protocols, and network design and implementation
  • Multiple operations systems including Linux
  • Software Defined Networks (SDN) and Network Function Virtualization (NFV)
  • Previous experience in a leadership or mentoring role.
  • An equivalent combination of directly related education and experience may be considered

Preferred Qualifications

  • Direct software development/computer programming instructional experience.
  • Experience working successfully in a project team.
  • Demonstrated flexibility in multi-unit organizations with experience working across business units.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem solving skills required.
  • Expert knowledge in software development and principles.
  • Instructional experience in a related field or in a post-secondary environment would be considered an asset.
  • Exceptional writing skills.
  • Curriculum development experience an asset.
  • Experience working with an online delivery platform (i.e. D2L, Blackboard or Moodle).
  • Highly organized and self-motivated.
  • In possession of at least more than one industry certification: CompTIA, CCNA, MSCE, VMWare, Redhat, ITIL, etc.

This is a full-time, continuous Faculty position and is currently subject to board approval.
