Job Description

The Interface Specialist is responsible for leading the analysis, design, development, implementation and support of interfaces required to support clinical information flows between software systems, using a broad variety of tools, including scripting languages, programming languages, interface engines, etc. Reporting to the Manager, Clinical Applications, this role provides guidance to application coordinators and vendors and determines the best approach to achieve required data flows and ensures consistency of interfaces development, communication protocols and processes utilized. The Interface Specialist will be required to work on multiple interface assignments and manage multiple priorities to maintain various project schedules.

Summary of Duties, but not limited to:

  • Gain in depth expertise of various interface software applications by attending training and completing an interface certification requirements
  • Advanced understanding of data, problem and structure analysis required to map information flows between applications/ interface engine
  • Leads development and validation of interface specifications based on application team requirements
  • Investigates and resolves complex integration and data flow issues
  • Leads interface and integrated testing prior to go-live
  • Determines and advises clients about vendor interface specifications and related opportunities and issues
  • Investigates and resolves problems and questions from end users
  • Documents all aspects of interface development process for due diligence purposes
  • Develops and implement interface testing protocols
  • Determines resource requirements for testing and coordinates with ancillary departments to secure interface testing resources as required
  • Manages error log
  • Works with application team to analyze data conversion needs
  • Works with Technical Manager to define controls and data conversion procedures
  • Works with business areas to understand points of integration (e.g. accounting, health records)
  • Maintains current and detailed documentation related to all assigned tasks for due diligence purposes
  • Develops regular status reports as required to ensure on time completion of assigned tasks
  • Defines and requests resources and staff for project implementation
  • Develops and writes test plans with expected results for each new integration /interface
  • Coordinates, manages, performs and sign-off all testing activities
  • Identify, track and communicate key issues regarding assigned application and escalate as necessary through established processes
  • Review and test each new release to coordinate enhancements as required

Qualifications

  • Undergraduate Degree in an IT relevant field
  • 10 years of related experience in a directly related field
  • Specialty Certificates in HL7 Certification, Crystal Reporting and SQL Programing, preferred
  • Knowledge of basic technical Integration tools; e.g. FHIR; HL7; SQL programming
  • Proficiency in MS Office, MS Visio, and MS Project
  • Strong problem solving and resolution skills
  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to oversee several projects with competing priorities
  • Ability to produce high quality reports and meet deadlines
  • Strong sense of initiative and self-management skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills in order to interact with individuals in a wide range of situations
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent critical thinking, judgement and analysis skills
  • Demonstrated record of good performance and acceptable attendance will be considered as part of the selection criteria
  • Professional behaviour and communication that meets the standards of the professional regulatory college or association, as applicable, and the standards of Women’s College Hospital
